hello there, is it possible to use my locked in retirement savings (not liquid)statement to apply for Non O visa from my country then use my cash later to open a Thai bank account when i get to Thailand? dont plan to use my retirement savings but will have some cash later. I’m trying to limit time i have to stay in my country while waiting for my cash. 😊👍🏻 hope my question make sense. thanks 🙏
Answer summary
The original poster inquired about using locked-in retirement savings as proof of funds for a Non-O Visa application, intending to access liquid cash later to open a Thai bank account. The community responded that generally, locked retirement funds are not acceptable as they are not liquid. Users emphasized the necessity of providing bank statements from accessible accounts, with some suggesting alternate options like monthly distributions. It was advised to check with the specific Thai consulate for their requirements, but the consensus was that immediate access to funds is needed for both the visa application and future financial stability in Thailand.

Well…I’m not able to cash in my locked retirement funds. Was hoping i could still use that to start my Non O visa…i have 90 days to move to Thailand once its approved. At that time i could sell my place for the deposit needed in my Thai account when i get there. Now i know i cant do that , thanks for the info. 👍🏻😊

The money is expected to be always available for living here. They don't want you working.

Do you have income of the equivalent of 65k Baht a month showing in your regular bank account?

Once your 90 day non-O visa begins, you have 30 days to deposit 800 000thb in your thai bank account. It has to be seasonned 60 days before the your 1 year extension. Is 30 days worth all the trouble?

I applied for the marriage retirement visa from the US and provided copies of my bank statement and retirement account. When I arrived in Thailand, I opened a bank account and deposited 400K baht. Check with the Thai consulate you are applying through to see what they will accept to grant the 90 visa.

George Johnson what df is a marriage retirement visa? And what is a "retirement account" ? . . . It either is a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, OR it is a 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa. For the application to the Family Visa inside the USA you usually need to upload three months of account statements that show more than the equivalent of 400,000 THB in a bank account in your sole name. This account can be anywhere in the World as long as you can show it is in your sole name. For the application to the 1-year extension of the stay permit, you need that money in your Thai bank account and on the day you apply it must have been sitting in the account for a minimum of 2 months

If you have monthly distributions arranged, you could possibly use that letter.

Which Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate (where) is this?

Usually not, but you can ask the specific Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate as some have been reported to accept certain other types of accounts beyond the ordinary individual checking, savings bank account....

not sure that matters much even if a consulate were to allow it as she needs to place funds in a Thai bank within a couple of weeks of arriving in Thailand to let them season for 2 months before she can apply for the 12 months extension of stay

No, you can only use available cash accounts. They demand that money more or less is immediate accessible. Mostly a fixed account will be accepted but beyond this - not

You can't use locked funds. You need to be able to provide bank statements showing the available funds

I asked the same question a few months ago about my LIRA and I was told it wasn’t allowed as it’s not liquid.
