Hi All, just wondering what the situation is regarding leaving by air without canceling work permit and visa. Is it still ok to leave via air without any problem?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the implications of leaving Thailand by air without canceling a work permit and visa. One commenter shares their experience of being stamped out without issues but warns that failing to cancel a work permit can cause problems when applying for a new one. Multiple participants confirm this concern, especially regarding future visa applications in the same administrative area. Although one user mentions their company will cancel the work permit after departure, another cautions that relying on the employer's actions might not be wise, as past experiences have resulted in complications and costs for visa runs and paperwork.
You can't really rely on them. My previous school swore up and down they canceled everything after I left. Turned out, they canceled jack shit. It ended up costing me over 20,000 baht on visa runs and new paperwork before I got my new docs months later.
I can confirm that Tod. Labor Office is not happy when you not cancel your WP, i left without cancelation, hoping to return before expiry date. Did not work out as planned. Went to labor office for new WP, very angry people there, they insist I hand in old WP, so went home to collect and handed it over. Some typing in their computers systems followed and application for new WP took 3 months. When collecting the new one, a nice reminder of the staff: If you stop working you cancel WP the same day, if not we not issue new one to you again.
I have heard that if you don't cancel your work permit and Non-B extension when you leave you can run into problems should you try to get another Non-B or work permit.
If you don't care to ever come back and work here again; no problem but I can testify from personal experience that it's a major pain in the ass if you want to return to work and don't cancel properly.
I did it. No problem. They stamp you out and thats it. Was on my workpermit /Visa/extension of stay. The immigration officer still asked me , sir you want re entry permit for your visa. No thank you. Just stamp me out. I returned again a week later and got a normal tourist visa. (Only think I dont know if my employer/agency did any paper afterwards but they were very helpful with everything from the beginning. :-)
