Hi, hoping someone can help me. I'm coming to the end of my non b work visa and just wondering if I can get a visa exemption on it at a land border crossing or do they only apply for tourist visas? Thanks a lot

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a visa exemption at a land border crossing with a non-B work visa. Responses clarify that no extensions can be granted at the border for any visa type. It is recommended to properly cancel the work permit and any extension of stay before leaving the country. After cancellation, the user can either exit/re-enter for a 30-day visa exemption or apply for a tourist visa at a Thai consulate.

, your work permit doesn't make you report every 90 days :/ It only allows you to work here IF you are on the correct visa/extension

However because you do 90 day reporting I can say with near 100% certainty you are not on ANY visa anymore and instead on a yearly extension of stay.

I'll try one more time to let you kow what you do.

Go cancel your work permit, take that receipt and the termination paperwork from your company to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay, THEN leave the country.

You seem to think that letting your work permit and/or extension expire will cancel them, I can assure you it does NOT.

If you're ever gonna work in this country again (like EVER) you need to cancel both of them the proper way.

Good Luck, (y)

, you should go to the immigration office with the termination paperwork a week or so earlier than the date on the paper. That way they'll cancel the extension, give you a new stamp dated for the termination date and you can plan to leave the country that day.

IF you don't do that, and just take paperwork in cancelling it that day you either leave the country OR you buy a 7 day extension denied stamp to get out of thailand for 1900baht.

I'm sorry, one final question: will I need to leave Thailand on the same day that I have cancelled the extension of stay? Thank you

You can't get ANY extension on any visa at a land border. It doesn't matter what kind it is.

If you're on a yearly extension you need to cancel your work permit, take that receipt along with your termination paperwork from your company and go to the immigration office and cancel your extension.

After that you can exit/re-enter the country to get a 30 day visa exempt entry or go to a thai consulate in another country to buy a single entry tourist visa

Two different things. a Work Permit allows you to work in Thailand. a Visa or Extension of Stay allows you to be in Thailand. The work permit must be cancelled on your last day of working, not put in a drawer and wait til it expire naturally. Than continue as Tod already described.

This is great info, thanks for your help. So I have a work permit where I have to report every 90 days. If I let my work permit expire naturally and arrange to leave the country on that day and then reenter the next day, I'm assuming I don't need to request the company to cancel it, since it will have expired

Do you have a year-long multi-entry Non-B visa that you got from a thai consulate where you exit/re-enter the country every 90 days

OR

Do you have a year-long extension of stay that you got from the immigration office where you do 90 day reporting?
