Can I enter Thailand using a Non-B visa after exhausting visa exemptions, and can I obtain a re-entry permit during the initial 90 days?

Hmmm... 2-part question;

I've done the 2 land borders using visa exemption already this year

However:

... if I come by land crossing next time but *with a non-b for work*... then, is that allowed?

2nd part: if yes, that's allowed to be done, and therefore it gets me in for 90 days [in which time the full year extension must be done] during those 90 days can I get a re-entry permit, leave for 3 weeks and return on a still valid non-b? (Getting the full year extension once I'm back)

My school couldn't confirm or deny whether a re-entry permit works for people in those initial 90 days/prior to having the 1 year extension

As always, thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about entering Thailand with a Non-B visa after having exhausted their visa exemption entries. They asked if this is allowed and if they could also get a re-entry permit during the initial 90 days before applying for a one-year extension. Community responses confirmed that entering Thailand with a valid Non-B visa by land is permitted and that obtaining a re-entry permit is also allowed during the initial entry. They advised ensuring all necessary documentation is in place to avoid complications during re-entry.

What the others said.

Strange that your school couldnt confirm or deny it. A re-entry permit has always been a re-entry permit, whether on intitial visa or extension.

I have a feeling it's just not common as most teachers who are here already have the extension of stay and most situations probably don't have teachers leaving in the first 90 days ๐Ÿ˜…

#1 YES... With a valid Non B Visa

#2 YES... With a re-entry permit

Make sure you have what's needed for the Non B Visa....as you may have difficulty returning to Thailand by air โœˆ๏ธ. Being questioned by Thai Immigration Officers on arrival by air โœˆ๏ธ

You've already USED up your allowed maximum of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand.

thanks as always!

Just to confirm: "a valid non-b visa" is that sticker they literally physically put in my passport at a neighbouring consulate ... right? That is then allowed at a land border crossing into Thailand because the 2 entries/yr. is only limited to entries based on exemptions, right? That makes sense and is very reassuring!

What difficulties to you forsee if I come back in by air? [Ideally I won't do that anyways because land borders are so much closer to where I live]

YES... the Thai Visa will gain entry entry into Thailand.

But use land border crossing entries.

Less chance of being questioned by Thai Immigration Officers. Flying โœˆ๏ธ in increases the chances of being questioned.

You said you have already done 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand this year.

Just how long have you been in Thailand? In 2023, 2022 ???

Your recent history of staying in Thailand will raise the radar for questions from Thai Immigration Officers.

What is your passport nation?

What is the reason for obtaining the Non B Visa...?? Teacher or???

yes thanks.

Long story short been here 5 years on legitimate consecutive extensions of stay based on working... but in February of this year I had my first instance of losing a job prior to the contract finishing; forcing me to leave and return/remain here as a tourist just the past 3 months. Now I've found work again and should be able to secure the Non B without any issue. Have always been here legitimately, just the last couple months have required pop outs and since I live in Hatyai (Canadian nationality) going to Malaysia has been manageable.

I knew my previous "pop out & back in" via land border based on visa exemption was my last one allowed for this year, but if coming back with the NON-B is allowed, by land, I shouldn't have much to worry about.

you will be OKAY with the Non B Visa in your passport.

No issue at all entering by land with a valid visa after you've used your 2 free visa exempt land entries

You can indeed get a re-entry permit before you leave. That permit would be valid for the 90 days you were stamped in for and as long as you return before that 90 days is up you'll get the same expiration date you got when you entered on the Non-B

thanks Tod! If the re-entry permit can be used to maintain the visa validity before actually attaining the year long extension... that's a huge bonus!

@Chelsea *******
Your re-entry permit will be "Used" when you re-enter (unless you buy a multi-entry but why would you for a 90 stamp and you're working?)

yes all understood now :) thanks a bunch

@Chelsea *******
that's all it's good for, just the the current stamp you're on when you buy it, SO after you get the year extension you'd get a new re-entry permit that will be valid for that year

ah yes noted

Not a worry. I've left more times this year than the previous 5, hopefully no more leaving after all this is done 555
