USA passport holder. Tourist Visa August 28-Nov 25 2019 with 1st extension via Chiang Mai immigration office in September 2019 and 1 land border crossing via Mae Sai October 2019. Received a Non-B visa for teaching Nov 25, 2019--Feb 24, 2020 place of issue Vientiane, Loa via land crossing at Nong Khai, Thailand. I did not receive a work permit due to resignation of a teaching job. What are my options for going back onto a tourist visa to remain in Thailand while I find new work? Can I get this through Chiang Mai immigration office? Can I do a land boarder crossing? Is my only option to fly out of the country and back in?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a USA passport holder, is seeking guidance on obtaining a tourist visa after their Non-B visa for teaching expires. They already have a tourist visa that allowed for one extension and a land border crossing. Options include making a border run for a new 30-day Visa Exempt Entry, visiting a Thai consulate for a new tourist visa, or a Non-B visa if they find work. They cannot apply for a new visa at the immigration office, and they cannot extend their current Non-B visa.

okay lets recap your options
@Kristin ******
because you seem to not understand your limited choices.

You can stay in thailand on the 90 day entry stamp you got off that Non-B until it runs out. It doesn't matter if you work for the company that gave the documents or not to you so you could get the visa you can stay the full 90 days you were stamped in for

BUT

You cannot get ANY extension on it (period, end of story).

You need to either GO to a border, stamp out of the country, stamp in & out of another country and then back into thailand to get a 30 day visa exempt entry (no need to fly out and back)

OR

you need to go to a thai consulate in a nearby country and BUY a single entry tourist visa (that gets you stamped in for 60 days). Those are your choices.

As I said you CAN stay until this 90 day stamp from the Non-B runs out before you have to leave,

Good Luck

You can stay in Thailand until February 24, 2020 on your existing visa and entry. After that:

1. Border bounce, by land, for another 30 days. This will let you stay until around March 24, 2020. Hiring usually begins around March.

2. Extend that, if needed. That will let you stay until around April 24, 2020.

3. You may have to border bounce again, if the contract starts in May. That would let you stay until around May 24.

Do *NOT* work without a valid Non-B visa, and do *NOT* lose this job (until the end of the calendar year). You only get two visa exempts in a calendar year.

Remember too, you can not get a new Non-B at Vientiane either.

A border run will get you 30 days plus a 30 day extension is available at Thai Immigration office 1,900 Thbaht. You are allowed TWO land border crossings each calendar year. Therefire this can add FOUR months to find work.

Then go to a Thai Cobsulate as before to get Non B for teaching.

I got an extension 1,900 baht on my tourist visa by Thai immigration in September 2019. Can I do that again and go from the Non-B visa to a tourist visa at Thai immigration office?

If the Admitted until date is 24 Feb 2020 stamped in your passport, that will be the day you have to leave the country.

You can make a border run for a new 30 day Visa Exempt Entry

You can visit a Thai Consulate for a new Tourist Visa,

You can visit a Thai Consulate for a new Non immigrant B visa if you find an employer

And there are much more possibilities to stay long time in Thailand.

You can NOT apply for a new visa at Immigration Office.
