Does anyone know if I can get a same day tourist visa in Myanmar? Would normally fly to Malaysia but it turns out I will be in Chiang Mai for a couple days from tommorow, if possible I'd rather do both at the same time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addresses the possibility of obtaining a same-day tourist visa in Myanmar. The consensus among commenters is that a same-day service is not available for Thai visas in Myanmar. Normally, you would apply and pick up a visa the next day, and the option for a multi-entry visa is often only available in one's home country. Additionally, border bouncing is mentioned as a potential workaround to obtain entry into Thailand, but this involves exiting Thailand, going to another country, and then returning.

, I think you need to understand some of the visa related terms a little;

You "border-bounce' <- go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then back into thailand to either get a visa exempt entry stamp or to activate another entry on a multi-entry visa

You "visa-run' <- go to a thai consulate in another country to BUY a visa for thailand. No thai consulate in S/E Asia has same day service. So to answer the question you originally asked NO, you can't get a single entry tourist visa at the thai consulate in Yangon.

If all you're wanting to do is 'border-bounce' to get a 30 day visa exempt entry at the Mae Sai -Tachiliek, you can certainly do that.

No, you cant get a "same day" tourist visa. It's apply 1 day pick up 2nd day. There's no 30 day tourist visa, it's single or multi entry, 60 days single or 6 months multi., the multi is generally only avaliable in your home country

, you DO NOT need to have a visa to enter Burma at Mae Sai (Tachileik). You can enter, pay 500 baht for a "pass" that allows you to enter the town for a short time (they keep your passport), shop and return, or, simply get your stamp and turn around and go back into Thailand. Lots of people do this to get a new 30 day exempt entry.

You need a visa to enter burma though. Easiest way is to apply online but they only get processed during office hours.

For UK passport, you just fly back into Thai and get 30 days on arrival.

ok, 30 day exempt for UK citizen?

Uhhh... confused as to what you're asking. Are you looking for a visa for Myanmar or Thailand?
Mark *******
No... you can just go to Mae Sai by car, park, walk across the border and back. Super easy.

Actually I have a car up there, do I need to book with some package or can I do it alone? Sorry for all the questions man!

Good luck. You can book the trip via Green Bus online and then pay gor your ticket at 7-11. Highly recommend VIP seat for comfort.

I usually book 8 am to go to Mae Sai and 2:30 pm return. Gives me enough time to cross, back and grab a quick lunch. Or go and spend a day in Chiang Rai to check out the area.

Yeah I'm well aware of the extension haha! Im still going to have to do it at some point but later is better than sooner in that case! I owe you a beer!

30 days since 2016 Dec 31st.

30 days for sure. Used to be 15 but changed a couple of years ago. Also, you can extend that 30 days an additional 30 days at an immigration office within Thailand (1900 baht fee).

cheers Mark, you sure it's 30 days re entry over land yeah? I've not done a land crossing before so not worried about the 2 times limit, just rather not have to visit immigration in 2 weeks.

There is a 500 baht (or $10 US) Fee you have to pay to get your stamp in Myanmar. Just pay, get the stamp, turn around and back into Thailand. So yes...same day. But it will take you all day to go there and back from Chiang Mai. Green Bus is a good option.

You get 30 days visa exempt entry at the border to Myanmar (Mae Sai). You are allowed to do this 2 times per calendar year at land crossing.

Thai sorry man, Thai tourist visa. Currently already on an extension so need to leave and return. Would prefer a 30 or 60 day but not sure if its possible, heard its only 15 on land crossing?
