hey guys - does anyone have experience getting a Thai visa at the embassy in Yangon? Heading there in mid-August for 3 days and need to get a Thai visa (I have 4 entry stamps in my passport already and I'm scared to get banned!) Thank you so much

TLDR : Answer Summary
Users shared their experiences about obtaining a Thai visa at the Thai embassy in Yangon. They mentioned that the best times to visit are between 9-11 AM to submit applications and 1:30-3 PM for collection the next working day. Travelers need to provide crisp US dollars and can expect a relatively quick and straightforward application process. Concerns regarding overuse of a single consulate for visas were discussed, along with the fact that multi-entry visas are not available from this consulate for those without residency in the region.

Collection is 1.30 to 3 and I turned up 2.58 (traffic). In and out. Granted a three month visa. Asked for two. VERY happy!!!!

you couldn't ever have gone in and out on tourist visas because you can only get a tourist visa from a thai consulate like you just did.

You were comin' in and out on what's known as visa exempt entry stamps ;)

At least you will get stamped in on THIS tourist visa for 60 days and you can extend that for 30 more if you want to. :)

- it was wishful thinking!

- I've always gone in and out on tourist visas because I was lazy. This is the first time I went to an embassy to get 60 days so the 90 day date span confused me. I get it.

Fabulous embassy in any case.

you're confusing the validity of a visa (which is how long you have to use it) with the amount of time you'd get stamped into the country ON a visa. They are totally different things.

@Jo ******
its totally clear the visa is good for 90 days <- like I said that means you have that long to enter thailand.

Because it's a tourist visa you'll get stamped into the country for 60 days.

There is no entry stamp on a tourist visa that's longer than 60 days from the date you enter the country. :/

IF you want, after you're here you can go to the immigration office and apply for a 30 day extension for 1900baht. :)

That's how tourist visas work.

- So, wait. I'm confused. Even though it's dated for three months that doesn't mean I can stay for three months without renewing it? I'll see when I go back in a couple of days, but it's not clear from the visa itself!

keep in mind IF you got a single entry tourist visa. The visa is VALID for 3 months <- meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand and get stamped in for 60 days ;)

you're not going to get banned :/ If you get too many tourist visas from the same consulate they'll red-stamp your passport saying you can't use that consulate anymore for a visa is all

Thanks for the heads up!

, all they can really do is ask you why you come here so much, ask for proof of funds & proof of onward travel. They really don't deny people that much AND even if you were denied entry by air you're NOT banned, you just go to another country and cross into thailand by land. Being denied entry isn't a ban at all.

i'm worried that if I come into BKK on a stamp (visa exempt) too many times that they will flag me..

brought up a good point. They ONLY accept US dollars at the thai consulate there.

I went today. Seems pretty straightforward. Go 9-11. Return 1.30-3 next working day.

They didn't check the form or paperwork I supplied at the time, which concerned me. But I'm sure it'll be fine.

You do need crisp dollar bills though. Some people didn't have exact money and were given change in dollars.

All seemed pretty organised and efficient though.

Oh, and I got there around 9.30. Three of the four counters were open and wait time was 10 or 15 minutes.

They do have application forms there if you don't print one off.

thanks guys! I am looking to get a multiple entry tourist visa, is that possible?
Tod *********
nope, you can't get a 6 month METV from ANY thai consulate in S/E Asia. They all have residency requirements <- meaning you need to legally live (long term) in the country you're applying for the visa in.

You can only get a single entry tourist visa around here. The closest thai consulate that will sell 6 month METV's to people without a residency requirement is the one in Perth

You shouldn't have a problem getting a single entry tourist visa from that consulate. They're not busy and pretty easy to deal with,

Meet the requirements and you're good to go
