TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are traveling to Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and plan to leave for a week to visit PPhen, you can obtain a re-entry permit to keep your visa valid. You can apply for a single re-entry permit (around 1,000 baht) at your local Immigration Office or at the airport before you exit. This way, when you re-enter Thailand, your 60-day visa will still be intact, allowing you to continue your stay. However, if your visa is a single-entry type, make sure to get the re-entry permit before leaving Thailand.
Re-Entry Permit application (form TM.8) that is provided at your local Thai Immigration Office. One 2″ x 2″ passport photo. 1,000 baht for a single re-entry permit; 3,800 baht for a multiple re-entry permit (cash only) you can get them at the airport to
there were some reports here which said if you bring all documents and photos, you still pay 1000 for single. You don't need bring anything they prepare everything and pay 1200..
I’m pretty sure you can buy a single reentry permit when you leave on the 8th - if by plane you can get it at the airport before you exit Thailand immigration. Then you can enter again on the same 60 day visa (minus the days you used before and when you exited)
This is if your 60 day visa is a single entry visa.
If you have a multi entry visa then it doesn’t matter. And when you enter back into Thailand you will get another 60 days.
I've asked that before and been refused. The IO was very nice and escalated it to check but came back that it was not possible, that if the visa was there it had to be used. I think he'd be better off leaving the visa number off the arrival form and hoping they miss it.
He could try to do that (even if actually is not a visa on arrival but a visa exemption stamp). Just ask the Immigration officer not to stamp USED on his visa and give him a พ30 entry stamp.
