Super simple question. But just wanna confirm. Did border crossing at Mae Sai (first ever) early Jan.

Next flight out isn't til Feb 13.

I live in Chiang Mai. Gf lives in Chiang Rai...

Can I get my 30 day in CR or have to do it here in CM? Also... Can I just do it now even tho it doesn't expire til Jan 31?

Thanks! Y'all always awesome!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking confirmation on whether they can apply for a 30-day extension of stay in Chiang Rai since they are officially registered in Chiang Mai. They have already re-entered Thailand via a border crossing and wonder about the timing of their extension application, as their current visa stamp does not expire until January 31.

Chiang Mai lets you apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp and I think Chiang Rai allows you to apply when you have 30 days or less left. So you can go get your extension when ever you want to.

There is no upside to waiting until the stamp you have almost expires because they add the extension to your current expiration date.

Good Luck (y)

thanks :) was more a question of if WHERE I got it mattered based on where I lived...

Live in CM. So do I need to get extension here?

you need to use an address in the area that is served by that immigration office <- meaning you can't put a chiang mai address applying at chiang rai for the extension.

thank you, that was like 80% of my question! Probably could have been clearer I just know in this group more details in OP is better!

Appreciate everyone's feedback!

I guess you did a border run to get a new Visa Exempt Entry and you can apply for the Extension of Stay in Chang Rai. This Visa Exempt Entry is for short time tourists and Immigration does not expect people using this for living in Chang Mai.

The best plan is ask the immigration in Chiang Mai if you can extend your extension to Chiang Rai. I believed they’re friendly.

You should get it where you are registered to live. But lets await and see what others say.
