Hi all, I'm just curious if anyone has asked their immigration, if it is possible to do a normal extension on their visa after the free amnesty extension has expired. Tomorrow my exemption visa stamp expires, and I am wondering if I should do my 30 day extension now or not. I don't plan on going back home. But I am waiting for the Laos boarder to open up. Thanks in advance. Best luck to all.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original post asks about the possibility of extending a visa in Thailand after the expiration of a free amnesty extension. Several commenters advise that it's best to apply for a standard 30-day extension based on tourist status, especially since immigration offices are currently less crowded. They discuss the specifics of entering on a tourist visa and suggest visiting local immigration offices for assistance.

Good luck Stefan.

If you still have a 30 day extension available to you...DO IT NOW. Immigration offices are empty...no long lines.

On a related note,my visa exemption expired a few days ago on April 17th. And I am in Bangkok. Been wanting to extend. But I wasn't sure about going to the Muang Thong Thani office. Maybe I could give them a try in the next couple of days and see if they will allow it.

@Peter *******
you have amnesty thru April 30.

If you have right to extend 30 days ...DO IT NOW. The days are ADDED to your permission to stay date.

I'm in the similar situation as well. Except my visa exemption expired a few days ago. So Im following to see.

What does this got to do with the OP's question? I'm confused.

Did you enter on TOURIST VISA you purchased ?

What is your current permission to stay date?

If so then you have right to extend it 30 days.

Where are you in Thailand?

Some immigration offices allow the extensions at different times.

It is my opinion that you should get the extension of stay based on being a tourist, and not to go on the free amnesty extension. The immigration offices are empty, and we don't know what would happen come May 1st.
