Hello guys, I'm a Brazilian and I need to do the Visa run in January, but as I'm in Chiang Mai, I would like to know if I go to Myanmar now in December I will get the extension. Does Anyone have experience with that?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Brazilian expat in Chiang Mai is seeking advice on whether making a visa run to Myanmar in December will allow for an extension of their stay in Thailand. Responses indicate that Brazilians can receive a 90-day visa exempt entry upon arrival, but experiences differ based on border crossings. Some reports suggest that only certain borders, like Mae Sai, may allow re-entry to obtain another 90 days. However, there are uncertainties about the policy enforcement at different land borders.

Just to summarize: It seems you can get 90 days Visa Exempt Entry by bi-lateral agreement at Laos border, out of earlier reports not at the Cambodian border and nobody knows about Mea Sai or Mae Sot to Myanmar. There is enough information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted, but unfortunately they are not in charge of the Immigration Checkpoint. It also seems to be mentioned in a Vienna Convention, but if that all is going to help when an Immigration Officer says no, I doubt it. If you like to find out, your closest border Mae Sai will let you make a new run for this 90 day Exempt Stamp it will be a try out. If you decide to do this please report back with your experience. In the mean time, I guess all options are discussed.

Even though there is a bi-lateral agreement between thailand and the 5 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru & South Korea) so that they get 90 days when they enter thailand different land borders will NOT let people from those countries bounce out and back in to get another 90 day visa exempt entry.

I am not sure people from those countries can bounce out and back in at the Myanmar border crossings at Mae Sai or Mae Sot...

People from FIVE countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea) get a 90 day visa exempt entry when they come into thailand. Out of reports you only can do this when you fly out and back in.

I have a friend from Argentina who said the same thing....90 days by land border but did not specify the Mae Sai crossing.

It’s okay to be wrong sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Like I said I witnessed my friend do it, and I verified his stamp. He took great joy in showing me his 90 days knowing he needed only 30 himself and I was going to have to pay 1900 baht just to get 60.

Not only that but I’ve known of several others who have crossed the border and received their 90 days.

Just not sure about Mae Sai ...

Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brasil and South Korea citizens get 90 days exemption visa entry stamp by air or land, but I am not sure If Mae Sai do that. I heard about some argentinians that were denied to cross the border and the officials invited them to go to Chang Kohn or Nong Khai. They said that is ok a border bounce there for 30 days, but not 90, don't ask me why.

Tatiana Gómez thanks for this information, if you decide to do a border run, I wish you luck to explain this all to an Immigration Officer.

Tatiana Gómez And only Thai text in laws are legit in court and in Thai Government, did you read the Thai laws on this?

Ok... I think it is safer to fly... It is the first time I'm gonna do the Visa run and I was told to do it by Myanmar
Robert *******
Tatiana Gómez Sorry, I did not know you read the Thai Laws, but out of experience it does not always work as mentioned in the Thai law.
Robert *******
Tatiana Gómez Thanks for the information that it can be done at borders if you never done it.

Miguel Angelo In another group, this was asked and someone said that they were told when trying to cross at Mae Sai that they wouldn’t get their 90 days. I can’t remember if they actually crossed the border and got

/whatever days or if they didn’t bother to go through with it at all.

Of course, hearsay.

Edit: Also possible he’d already met his 2 visa exemptions and that’s why it was not allowed.

Tatiana Gómez Which borders did you use?

I used the search to get the answer and a company in Bangkok does not bring people of these 5 countries to the Birmese or cambodian borders. Their advice is to fly out, but as Michelle posted earlier in Feb 2018 a friend of her got these 90 day Visa Exempt Entry at the Laos border.

I have the 90 day Visa which expires on January. People from these country are used to getting out and coming back for more 3 months. My doubt is if I go to Myanmar by bus will I get the extension or I really have to fly out on January? Thank you for you answer

I was with a Chilean friend and we crossed overland from Vientiane (WITHOUT visas). He received 90 days at the border. This was early Feb 2018.
