TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquired about the possibility of extending their tourist visa for an additional 60 days in Thailand due to having Thai family. Various comments indicate that typically, tourists can receive a 60-day extension based on visiting Thai family, but certain rules apply: the extension costs 1,900 THB, and they should apply two weeks before the current visa expires. Additionally, recent COVID-19 related policies allow for unlimited extensions until the immigration office decides to stop offering them. However, it's crucial to check the latest regulations, as they can change frequently.

If you want to maximize your time in Thailand arrive with Tourist Visa and get stamped in for a 60-day permission to stay. You can extend that for 60 days by applying for a covid extension. You can repeat doing this last step until they stop selling covid extensions. You are also entitled to a 30-day regular extension of your original Tourist Visa. Finally, keep your 60-day visiting Thai family extension in reserve to be used when covid extensions are no longer being sold. Each extension costs 1,900 from immigration. The regular 30-day extension and the 60-day visiting Thai family extension can be used only once per entry. 60-day covid extensions can be purchased repeatedly up to the point where they are no longer sold. No one knows when that will be.

At most immigration offices you have to take your 60 day visiting Thai family extention BEFORE you can apply for the covid extention. Plus the 60 day visiting family replaces the 30 day extention, you cant have both.

The OP is here on a Tourist Visa, how in the world would immigration even know he has a Thai family to visit unless he decides to tell them? πŸ˜‰

If OP applied for a covid extension it's not clear to me how immigration would even know he has Thai family.

Again, OP comes into Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, then applies for a covid extension. Then when those run out he applies for a 30-day regular extension which he is entitled to based on his Tourist Visa. Some offices make you take the 30-day regular extension before they will let you apply for the covid extensions. My understanding is that a person can always apply for a 60-day visiting Thai family extension, even after they have applied for a 30-day regular extension to which he is entitled based on his Tourist Visa, and even after they have been on covid extensions.

I have never seen a rule that the 60-day visiting Thai family extension replaces the regular 30-day extension you are entitled to apply for based on a Tourist Visa.

Tourist visa is 60 days plus 60 days visiting Thai dependant relatives. 120 days in total.

ASSUMING PRE-COVID-19:

No. If you come in on a tourist visa, you will be stamped in for 59 days. You can get ONE extension of stay. You can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family (NOT a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism). You can get a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family ONCE!

IF the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is still being sold, purchase that first. A person can be unlimited COVID-19 related extensions, until the immigration office stops selling them.

Yes, 1900 THB at immigration will get you a C19 extension. Just go to the office 2 weeks before the end of your visa. They will extend it at the moment because of the ever never ending situation. They are very helpful. You need 3 copies of passport etc etc etc.

you will get negative comments on here be warned. Because of the 'situation' they have this new form in Immigration C-19 extension. 1900 THB take you partner with you. You will not have an issue sabi sabi mode. You will not be the only one doing it. At first they will give you 14 days and then when you return take your passport only. To be stamped again for the extended period. Some people without disrespect comment without living here. Things are changing everyday. We are heading for full lock down. Safe journey.

The OP can get a 60 days extention visiting Thai family WITHOUT having a 14 day under consideration period.

the 14 day UCP. Is just the process I was in Immigration for no more than 5 minutes on the 2nd stamp. The nice officer told me that you can stay as long as you want.

That's for a 'covid extention' NOT a visiting Thai family extention

same same. I'm here with my Thai family and will extend my visa on the grounds of 'family support' at the end of August for another 1,900 THB and 400k in my bank for 2 months. As stated I have no issue with Thai Immigration. They are so helpful and understanding in this current situation.
