TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to get a short extension on a Visa On Arrival in Thailand, but it is limited to just 7 days. The cost for this extension is 1900 baht, and the extension application is often not approved, meaning you must be prepared to leave the country once the 7 days are up. It is also mentioned that registering a Thai residence address may be required before applying for the extension.

You would get an "application for extension of say NOT approved" be given 7 days to get out of thailand. It costs 1900baht.

My mother in law (Chinese passport holder) once got an extension on a 15 day arrival visa but could only get 7 days extension. Please notice that before you can get any visa extension you have to register your Thai residence address.

That part about registering your address BEFORE you get an extension is NOT correct. Not all immigration offices require a foreigner (or their land lord) file a TM.30

Better apply for touristic visa in Sofia, so you can stay 2 months. I always apply there and I get visa same day. They only ask ticket reservation, nothing else.

I think it’s better he to apply in Beijing, if he want to stay longer.
