Hi again All...just checking before I book my return ticket to Thailand from Ireland. I will be getting a 30 day visa exemption but hope to get an extension onto that while I'm there. Is that easy to do and what is the max extension I could apply for ?

Thank you in advance for any advice given.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers entering Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption can apply for a one-time 30-day extension at an immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. Alternatively, for longer stays, it is recommended to apply for a tourist visa prior to arrival, which allows for a 60-day stay with the same one-time 30-day extension option. Some travelers also suggest a border run to countries like Cambodia or Vietnam to renew the visa exemption requirements.

You could enter with a 30 day exemption visa as all have stated extend that at any immigration office 1900 baht that gives you 60 days and you could then do a quick flight to Cambodia or Vietnam (around £50 return) and get another 30 days on arrival and extend that for another 30 days giving you a total of 120 days 👍

You will get 30 days exemption on arrival and you can apply for one 30 days extention of stay.

If I want to stay longer with the 30 day on arrival visa, what do i do? Can I extend my stay with a different visa in Thailand?

If you qualify (over 50, married to a Thai or have a Thai child) and meet the financial requirements there are Non-O Visas you can apply for.

If you travel without a visa you will receive 30 days when you arrive, and you can apply one time for a 30 day extension from an immigration office while you are here. The day you arrive is counted as day 1.

If you want more time, you should apply for a tourist e-visa through the online system before you come. You don't have to send your passport in anymore, and the London embassy generally issues visas within 3-4 business days.

With a tourist visa you will receive 60 days when you arrive and you can apply one time for a 30 day extension.

You will need to check with your airline what their document policy is for allowing you to board. Some airlines will not let you board with no visa unless you can show travel out of Thailand within 30 days, and some airlines will not let you board your flight with a tourist visa if you cannot show travel out of Thailand within 60 days.

I have all of the form filled in. I am concerned because I cannot find explanations of the downloads on google or at the evisa site. It asks for multiple passport pages and I can’t upload them. Only one. I tried to combine jpg into pdf and the file was too large. I just have many questions about the site and I am having problems getting responses from the embassy. It’s scary to pay for something that may get rejected. There is no technical support either. I did see a YouTube and the guy was complaining about how hard it was to use the site. He didn’t give answers to any issues.

i hear that Visa Exempt Entries are not extended, instead they give you 7 days, after that you leave the country. Is that the case at immigration offices in Bangkok?
Brandon ************
@Prince ***********
visa exempt can get a 30 day extension one time.

ok that's refreshing, because an embassy employee in Pretoria South Africa was telling me if you go to Thailand without visa you cannot extend the duration after 30 days. 😅

Do you know what kind of documentation they need for the extension?

South African passport holders can get an extension but passport holders from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda cannot get the regular 30 day tourism extension.

Brandon can you extend this visa for more than 30 days? Can you take multiple flights out to extend the visa? I am trying to get a AO retirement Visa using the USA Thai Embassy. Having issues with the payment and it is not my CC. Don't know what to do. Can I get another Visa to stay longer in Thailand?

@Ronnie ******
you cannot extend it more than 30 days. You can leave and return for a new stamp

Much obliged Brandon for that information, it's very helpful.

I actually presently hold a "Retirement Ext. that expires next month but I cannot travel till near the end of the year due to having medical tests here at home... Cheers again.
