How can I extend my 60-day tourist visa to a 12-month visa in Thailand based on my age?

12 month extension visa application query.

I'm looking for some advice regarding extending my 60 day tourist visa issued in the UK to 12 month visa based on being over 50years of age.

I arrived in Thailand on the 4/7/18, I am UK citizen aged 52. I have 12 month rental contract in Pattaya and will therefore be using the immigration department in Jomtien.

I have scrolled through the numerous post regarding this subject as I wish to complete the process myself. My queries are:-

1. I have sufficient income from a government pension to meet the 65000bt monthly income requirement and have yesterday posted the necessary forms to the UK Embassy in Bangkok to evidence this, I'm informed this usually takes 10 days. On reading a post a appears I may also have to have this form approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok, is this correct and do I just turn up there for this to be done?

2. What is the correct form from immigration that I need to complete is it the TM87 or TM6?

3. Could I apply for the extension before my 60 day visa ends and still get a 30 day in the meantime, I'm unclear of the best time to apply to get the most out of the visas?

4. What documents will require copying?

Thank you in advance for any help received.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to extend their 60-day tourist visa to a 12-month visa due to their age as a UK citizen. They have questions about the income verification process with the UK Embassy, the specific immigration forms needed, the timing for applying for the extension, and which documents should be copied for the application.

First you have to apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age. You need therefor the TM87 form, after you got this Visa which will give you 90 days, you can apply 60 days later for the 1 year Extension of Stay.

Great.....thanks, I'll report back next week...

Daryl Vernon Usually what they do when you're using the affidavit of income letter for the initial Non-O and then the subsequent year extension is

They'll have you copy the notarized affidavit and then they'll stamp the copy stating they took the original for the Non-O application and you can use the stamped copy for the year extension 2 months later.

OR at least that's what the Bangkok Immigration office does (that example is from a Canadian income letter)

Thanks Tod, I'm aware of the fees for both applications and there may have been some misunderstanding between myself and the information desk at immigration.

My main concern is that would I be able to use my recently obtained certificate of income for both applications? Or will they march me back to BKK for a new one for the extension application?

No doubt all shall be revealed when I return next week!!!!

@Daryl *******
that copy you showed is the requirements to get a 90 day Non-O visa (off either a 30 day visa exempt entry OR a 60 day tourist visa entry IF you have at least 15 days left on your current stamp. ;) )

@Daryl *******
The 90 day Non-O visa goes "under consideration" for 14 days before you go back and get the Non-O visa and the new 90 day stamp inked into your passport.

THEN you need to wait until you have 30 days or less left on that new 90 day stamp before you can apply for a year extension.

There is no immigration office that issues them both at the same time any more and if someone IS doing that it's for money under the table. :O

A 90 day Non-O visa costs 2000baht and a year extension costs 1900baht so you're in for 3900baht for both of those in hard costs.

Update
*****
/18 .... I went to Chonburi Immigration office this morning to enquire about the required documents for my 90 day non O visa and 12 months extension. A very kind lady gave me the below information sheet and proceeded to fill out the required forms for me there and then to enable me to apply for 90 day plus 1year extension simultaneously

1. Form TM86 Application for change of visa

2. Form TM7 for application for extension of temporary stay in Thailand.

3. Acknowledgement of terms and conditions of temporary stay in Thailand

I was unable to proceed with my application at this time as my intention was only to enquire about what was needed and I didn't have the necessary fees and other paperwork. It seems pretty straight forward and I shall be returning early next week to complete.

Great, Thanks....

You do NOT want the document certified.. She'll tell you they don't do it, all you want is the consular officers signature (the person who signed your affidavit) verified. They'll put that stamp on the back of your affidavit.
Tod *********
@Daryl *******
You go to the ministry of foreign affairs office out at Chaengwattana to get that stamp

Update....I have today received back my certificate of income via post from the British Embassy in Bangkok.

I have contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok today who inform me that they do not legalize/certify documents there and I need to go to Chaeng Watthana Immigration....... is this correct, or have I just rang on a bad day or spoke to the wrong person perhaps?

If you're using the embassy notary letter in Jomtien you WILL have to get the MFA stamp on it. They switched a while back on that and now make people get it.

Great thanks, as I say I've scrolled through previous posts and it gets a little confusing on this subject I will persevere !! Thanks again I'll try and sort it and get back to you with any further queries.....

No, just the letter is enough.

Would the Embassy letter require confirmation from the MFA in Bangkok?
Robert *******
All documents needed to apply for the Visa are also needed to apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay. So you can make extra copies.

It differs at Immigration Office, Your monthly income certified by Embassy, copies passport id page, visa page, admitted to stay page, departure card, proof of address, map to your house, rental contract, for sure, but best is to ask Immigration office for their hand out and how many days you need left on your Admitted to Stay period, this is 15 days in Bangkok, 21 days in Chang Mai and i'm not sure in Pattaya.
