TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibilities of extending their tourist visa after it has automatically extended until July 31st. They also want to know if they can do a visa run to another country. Comments indicate that once the amnesty ends, it's currently uncertain what will happen, and visa runs might be complicated due to closed borders and consulates.
Does the amnesty count as an extension? I know someone who is convinced that he can still extend his visa as he hasn`t done before. I did tell him to wait and see but be prepared to leave.

The amnesty can be viewed as "overstay" without any fines or punishments. I would make any decisions about staying here to be based on an assumption that you're on overstay, and not an extension.
AND before you even ask, NO ONE KNOWS what will happen in 6 weeks when the amnesty runs out. You (along with the many thousands of other people on amnesty) will find out when the government makes an announcement about it
SO
That means, sit back, enjoy your time here, watch the news and do what the announcement tells amnesty holders to do once they annouce it :)
thank you so much for the response. I dont want to go back to home country because im a nurse and when I go there we will have quarantine and they will not let me out so I can help with COVID patients. Will continue to monitor the news. Thanks for the update! โค๏ธ

nope, you're done and you're on amnesty until the 31st of July
you can LEAVE thailand (you have always been able to LEAVE) but you're not getting back in any time soon and none of the thai consulates in nearby countries are open and the land borders are closed to foreigners entering SO I'd say IF you wanna run to another country to buy a visa, providing you can find a country to go to, you need to plan on being there a good long while :)
