I was planning to go do a standard 30 day extension on my soon to expire tourist visa exempt, but heard about this visiting family extension. I am here with my Thai wife, and of course visiting her family. Is this a difficult extension to get? Can we show up and talk to the agent about both options? Thanks

Easy to get if you're visiting Thai dependents

You will need your marriage license, and amphur registration document, then a copy of your wife's Thai ID card, and a copy of her house book listing. A copy of your passport, and the application form.

so far our us marriage certificate has worked for most other documents, so do you think it will be acceptable for this application? Thanks

If you haven’t had the standard 30 day extension then most offices will make you get that first. Once that’s winding down you can apply for the 60 day visit Thai family visa. Beware though because you are “changing the reason” for an extension they may date it from the day you apply, so you’d loose any remaining days of your 30 day extension. Ask your office for their policy on this.

hey Stuart, still pondering this. Are you saying I can apply for the visiting family extension, after a regular 30 day extension?

@Linhof ********
Sure. But like anything here it may be office specific.

Sisaket and Ubon Imm Offices only ever offered me the 60 days, said I couldn't have both

@Steve ******
like I mentioned. It will be specific to each office.

will the offices answer these questions on the phone before we go?

I don’t know the answer to this. If you can get them to answer a phone then they probably will.

ok thanks. yeah if the 60 day family extension is a long shot at this point, not bringing the family with us would be less stress for sure.
