Hello everybody. I arrived on a 30 days visa extension on december the 14th. I would like to extend until early march. So I should apply for the covid 60 days extension. But I Heard that I should apply to the 30 days first. But if I do this, I won't have opportunity to apply for the covid extension as it will not exist after january the 25th.

What do you think about it ?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on extending their 30-day visa, which was granted on December 14, until early March. They are concerned about applying for a COVID-related 60-day extension, as reports suggest that it may no longer be available after January 25. Community responses indicate that the standard procedure typically requires applying for a 30-day extension before pursuing the COVID extension. However, there are suggestions that even if the COVID extension is verbally rejected, the user may still receive the 30-day tourism extension, allowing for a visit until mid-February, with the possibility of applying for the 60-day extension before the deadline.

Most immigration offices require a person to apply for a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism BEFORE applying for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

My advice would be to apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 using the documents in my "featured/ pinned" post. They may verbally reject your request for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, but WILL give you a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism.

If they give you a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, keep your eyes open for changes.

"I would like to extend ......" , then you should have planned and applied for the correct tourist visa, Immigration don't care about what you would like. :-)

I bet it's in the country's interest to let tourists stay, so I bet they will close their eyes on some things

Also when entering on a visa exempt entry as you did, most airlines check your return flight is within 30 days ? So maybe you already have a return booked?

Lloyd Turner Yes but I can change the date

Depends on which office you will be using, but I would bank on just getting 30 days. How can you justify an "unable to travel" covid extension when you have just travelled here ?

Lloyd Turner I am in Phuket. Yes, I wonder how the people are getting 60 days extension again and again while they can easily get back home.

I will try my luck.

Thank you.

You can apply for a COVID extension...but there is no guarantee that it will be approved.

Apply before your current permission to stay date expires

But not later than January 25th

Go before that date as the extension - if granted - is from your current COVID extension ending date.

The COVID extension is not guaranteed. In fact we have reports of this happening in recent weeks:

...of extension being denied

...given 7 days to depart Thailand

...granting less than 60 days

...requesting to see a confirmed booked flight out of Thailand.

And/Or

...a letter from your home country Embassy requesting the extension

Be sure that you have a TM30 address registration filed where you are living.

And be prepared to answer the question... Why are you still in Thailand?

The COVID extension is not guaranteed...and as you stated this is not your first COVID extension request.

If you have been in Thailand for using many extensions...Including multiple COVID extensions....

Then the newly published Thai Immigration Order should be of interest to you.

The Immigration Officers have been instructed to be stricter in granting the COVID extensions.

And recent reports of less than 60 days are reported granted...even the 7 days to leave Thailand stamp.

Read the bottom 5 lines of right hand column...

Suggest you have a Plan B in mind.

Good Luck
