My turn. I'm due to extend my non-imm-o visa (based on marriage) next week (Friday 17th) in Chiang Mai. Can I go do it a few days earlier or will they tell me to come back on the specific day? Hate to leave it until last minute. Have read contradicting reports (as usual) and it may vary by location. Thanks for helpful replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for the extension of your Non-Immigrant O Visa based on marriage up to 45 days before it expires, according to responses from others who have done the same in Chiang Mai. It's advisable to apply early rather than waiting until the last minute. However, it's important to note that the extension won't be issued immediately; it will undergo a 30-day consideration period before you return to have it officially stamped in your passport.

I did mine around 30+ days before expired. All good.

As Robert said you can apply up to 45 days early and there is no down side to applying early because they add the year extension to your current expiration date.

Keep in mind though that extensions of stays based on marriage are NOT issued on the spot but go under a 30 day consideration period before you go back and get the 11 month extension inked into your passport (the 30 day under consideration is your first month of the new year extension).

@Robert ******
ok. Got it. Thanks

I always went to Krabi and the 1 month under consideration was always added to the last day and than I got the 11 months to complete the 1 year Extension of Stay. I always went 30 days before the end date.

So you have 1 year, by going in that early the last month of your Extension is used as the month under consideration. If you go on the last day, say 29 jun, you get 1 month till 29 Jul under consideration and than 11 months till 29 Jun next year as end date.

@Robert ******
the extension is always June 29 to June 29. I always go in 30 to 45 days before June 29 (So late May). They tell me to come back June 29 and they stamp it saying from June 29 to June 29 the next year.
Robert *******
And what was the date of your previous Extension or your previous Admitted Until date?

@Robert ******
but I had 1 month + (May 21 to June 29) under consideration. Got my new extension. June 29 it expires June 29 next year. So 1 month consideration plus 12 months on the extension.

1 month under consideration plus 11 months extension makes 1 year in total.

Todd Daniels I don't understand your 11 month comment. My extension (marriage) expired June 29. I went in 21 May got the under consideration stamp. Went back 29 June got the extension to 29 June 2019. So 12 months.

Yes I know about the 1 month consideration. Basically they want to review and make sure we're actually still married (after 7 years of same same) ;-)

Thanks

Chang mai allows you between 45 days and last day of Admitted until date apply for an Extension of Stay
