Can I extend my non-immigrant ED visa to one year based on marriage to a Thai citizen?

Can I get a one year extended stay based on marriage with a Thai on a non immigrant ED visa?

When applying for one year extension on the base of marriage it's either 400k in a Thai bank account or 40k monthly 'income' from my home country; and I need a paper from my embassy confirming that right? Do I have to go to my embassy in person to get it or is it possible to get it another way? Or is there another way to get this extension?

I have a Swedish passport and I'm on my second one year non immigrant ED visa.

Best regards.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your non-immigrant ED visa for one year based on marriage to a Thai citizen, you need to either maintain 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months before applying or demonstrate a monthly income of 40,000 THB from abroad, verified by your embassy. You will likely need to obtain a letter from your embassy confirming your income, which may require a personal visit, depending on embassy policies. It's essential to cancel your current education-based extension before applying for the marriage extension, and you'll need to submit the application in person, accompanied by your Thai spouse.

IF you are not going to change your extension like I outlined earlier, and instead go to Savannakhet to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage <- where you leave the country every 90 days to get another 90 day stamp you would need to take a letter from your school and go to the immigration office and cancel your current extension BEFORE you left the country to go get the visa

Thanks for the information Tod Daniels.

I might add something to the switch from an ED extension (I am guessing you're on an extension NOT a real visa).

You are not switching ANY visa, you are switching the reason for your extension. You take a letter from your school, stating you are stopping studying on xxx date. They cancel your extension based on education, and then you immediately apply for a new extension based on marriage by meeting the financial requirements and submitting the correct documentation. You CANNOT make it work without canceling the extension based on education first before you apply for the extension based on marriage.

You can apply 30 dasy before you last day of your Extension for a new Extension based on marriage to a Thai National. It is indeed 400K on a Thai bank account on your name for two months prior the application date or 40k a month income from abroad certified from your embassy. I don't know if your embassy allows mail applications or only visits. The Extension of Stay you have to apply in person with your wife present.

So I sent an email to the consulate to get some more information; this is the answer I got from them, I thought they would supply me with my proof of income, or was I mistaken?

Mark they can always ask for proof on that document, BUT there is nothing in the rules that you need to bring a single baht of money into this country and I'da went right over his head if they tried to pull that. I

Even though I use the income letter from the consulate I take proof with me that shows the amount I put down.

Mark Stanley what immigration office was this where you had someone want to see proof on the income affidavit?

I've used it for the last 9 yearly extensions without any problem and never had an officer ask for proof to back up the number on the letter.

During a extension of stay (marriage) the immigration office once asked when the money was transferred into Thailand, my wife checked in our bank book and gave the date, and that was accepted. On two other occasions nothing was asked further.

Thanks for that information, I was worried that I couldn't do it on a non immigrant ED.
