It's my understanding that before my education visa expires I can extend it for 60 days and then get a marriage visa without leaving Thailand. I would like to know if this is correct or not. Thanks in advance! :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your Non Immigrant ED visa for education purposes for an additional 60 days before it expires, provided you have the necessary documentation from your school. After the extension ends, if you are married to a Thai National and meet the requirements, you can apply for an Extension of Stay based on marriage without leaving Thailand.

And to avoid discussion about how to get married and all those start posting their wedding experiences, i close it,
Thanks for the contributions

It's July. An education visa is good for 3 months, which means you would have had enter Thailand in April. I think the borders were closed in late March.
Are you still on your original three month visa, OR did you get an extension of stay based on being a student already?
You *MAY BE* able to convert that extension of stay based on being a student to an extension of stay based on being married to a Thai National. Some immigration offices might, and some might not.
If you're a male, and the person you're married is a female, you'll need to have 400K THB in a bank account for 2 months, OR 40K THB a month of monthly income.
You'll have to go to your local immigration office and ask if that's possible.

If you enter Thailand using a Non Immigrant ED visa, you get 90 days of stay. If you like to stay longer due to your course and school visits, you go to immigration with documents of the school and apply for an Extension of Stay based on education. Before this Extension ends and you are married with a Thai National and meet all the requirements you can apply for the Extension of Stay based on marriage.
i use the official names as people tend to call all kind of visa and Extensions a marriage visa.
For the record I'm not married yet but I have all the documents to do so and I will have had 400k in the bank for over 2 months before my current visa expires
no it doesn’t, at least it didn’t for me. Took a couple of hours for my wife and I. Turned up at the district office. Did all the jazz, took the obligatory picture and went on our merry way.
What you try to name a marriage visa has the official name Extension of Stay based on marriage with a Thai National
Your idea is possible, only the terminology makes it a little confusing

Thanks for a swift reply Robert. I am already in Thailand and my visa expires in August. So I can apply for an Extension of Stay based on marriage and then apply for a marriage visa all within Thailand?
