TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the possibility of obtaining a 60-day extension on their Non-O visa for personal reasons rather than due to travel restrictions. Responses suggest that the individual can apply for a 60-day extension for 1,900 baht at their local immigration office, which does not require proof of funds. Alternatively, obtaining a longer-term extension linked to marriage or family may require meeting specific requirements, including financial documentation. Participants stress the importance of consulting the specific immigration office for local rules and any potential letter requirements from embassies.

Okay, you're confusing two separate things.

IF you came into thailand on a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai you can apply for a year extension of stay at the immigration office in your area for 1900baht by meeting the financial requirements of showing 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months

I think when you mentioned the borders and lao you were confusing a year extension <- that I just explained you get from an immigration office with a year long VISA <- that you used to get from consulates in nearby areas.

I do believe 5 months is your maximum unless borders reopen

I am told you can apply for another extension after this but it will be refused and 7 days issued instead .

Total 157 days which I think is ample for most visiting family

that’s what I thought , I asked the group because a friend went to immigration yesterday in Lom sak , and enquired , a bit of a translation issue as the officer said you can not do nothing without a letter from our embassy 🤔

@Dave *******
there is a special form that you fill out that states you cannot get the letter from your embassy. Some people also printed out from their embassy website or an email they got stating that the letter was not being issued too.

The form looks like this

at this time that is totally unknown. You can only get ONE 60 day visit family extension per entry, BUT at this time they also have the 60 day extension (rather than them extending amnesty) so you should ask your immigration office if you can get that instead of getting the visit family extension

@David ******
that is what I am after , as computer says no to funds for a year extension, where are you based ?

as people pointed out you COULD apply for a 60 day visit thai family extension (based on marriage to a thai or visiting half thai children) for 1900baht and that extension does NOT require any proof of funds.

It'll buy you 2 more months here but that's about it

If you enter on a 90 day Non Immigrant O visa based on Thai Family, you can visit your local immigration office and extend your stay for 1 year.

Every Immigration office has slightly different requirements, so it's best to visit them and ask what their exact requirements are.

At a minimum you will need the original and 2 copies of each

1. Your passport ID page and any pages with stamps on them. And your TM. 7 departure card.

2. Your marriage certificate/Thai child's Birth Certificate

3. Your wifes Thai ID card or Passport

4. Your wifes Tabien Baan (blue house book)

5. 2 photos of you and your wife together. One inside the house and one outside, showing the house number if possible.

6. A map of where your property your staying in is.

7. Your TM. 30 form.

8. Proof of a minimum ฿400,000 in a Thai bank account in your name for at least 2 months prior to application without going under that amount.

All you can do is go to the immigration office you use and ask them.

If you have a Non-O visa entry why are you not applying for a yearly extension?
