TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about traveling to Thailand on a one-way ticket using only a Certificate of Entry (COE) while planning to set up a bank account for a marriage visa. Comments suggest that it is possible but dependent on visa type. Travelers may face airline checks for onward travel documentation, especially if not holding a marriage visa. Recommendations include considering options like open return tickets or using services like onwardticket.com to avoid complications.

Buy a open return but why a marriage visa why not a retirement visa no need to go out every 3 months.and other benefits.

David Broadfoot I bow to you obvious higher level of information me personally I just hope it stays the same and we can all do what we came hear for no stress and a great lifestyle .be good be safe stay well .

David Broadfoot mum one no visa run every 90 days only declaration of address by post as far as I can remember from 8 years ago I had to leave Thailand and pay 500 baht each time .now I don't if you know it's not that now then I will revert back next time.

David Broadfoot I was talking about a marriage visa because that's what I thought they had or just a tourist visa witch as I said the requirements were lifted in spate of corvid .no need to get upset it's a genuine mistake .I have a retirement visa and have had for 11 years.

A marriage visa also requires 50% of the money (400k vs 800k) that a retirement visa does.

why would he need to leave every 3 months if married?

FFS! I can read. It was a rhetorical question, hence no question mark.

Multi entry Non Imm O visa based on marriage is valid for 1 year but requires you to leave every 90 days or apply for an extention of stay.

@Steve ******
ok. My sons never left. He's just done his year extension this week.
Steve *******
@Lynnette ******
Why would he if he applied for an extention of stay. It's one or the other NOT both.
Lynnette *******
@Steve ******
I said he didnt leave, he did the extension.

because of corvid the visa runs were cancelled they were replaced with as you said extensions if stay but under normal times a requirement of a o visa is in out visa run .

In the past I used bus tickets. I am pretty sure that is not currently an option. The issue you are likely to have is with the airlines. They sometimes will screen passengers at check-in/boarding to make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to enter the destination country.

I **think** you are not required to have onward travel if you have visa. It maybe the case you need to have onward travel for Visa Exempt (sometimes erroneously called visa on arrival).

If I felt like taking a risk and being cheap, I would show at the airport without onward travel. If I get stopped I would buy a cheap ticket from BKK to anywhere. Currently Singapore $100 from BKK (round trip). You wont use the ticket - so it doesn't need to be round trip or anyplace you want to visit.

If you shop around a bit, you maybe able to find an refundable option. Like if you buy from AirAsia - then sometime in the future you can change destination (from singapore to someplace local).

There are no direct flights from BKK to USA. It maybe worth while shop around for a ticket from any place to USA. Then buy cheap ticket from BKK to anyplace, with options to reschedule, refund, etc.

if you are already married, then just get your type O 90 day visa. It just takes copies of your marriage certificates, and copies of your Thai wife's ID card, and a copy of the Thai house book she's listed in. It is very easy. Then you don't have to waste money, 1900 baht twice, getting your 30 day extension, and the unable to travel covid-19 extensions. As with quarantine, and the time it takes to get out, and get your bank account, you'll be short a few days for the two month requirement. It gives you enough time to get your bank account taken care of, and get the rest of the documents, and pictures required for your one year extension.

Just coming on visa exemption plus one 30 day extension wont give you much time to sort out bank account and have it there for two months

@Michael *******
Plus most airlines wont let you board without return/onward travel if you dont have some sort of visa and many wont let you board one-way unless it's a long term visa.
Michael ********
You can, but you can also get a marriage non O from your embassy showing funds in your bank account there. This would be 90 days and give you the time to get your money in bank account for the two months before you appky for extension.
