I posted yesterday and once again have had conflicting advice, does anyone have any evidence that you can use a one way ticket with Thai air ways from London if you have a non o visa, based on marriage. It would be good if this question could be cleared up once and for all. Have tried to speak to Thai airways but no joy.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can travel to Thailand on a one-way ticket if you hold a Non-O visa based on marriage. Many users have shared experiences indicating that they have successfully boarded flights to Thailand without an onward ticket when traveling on a Non-O visa. However, some have noted that airline personnel may occasionally request proof of onward travel, particularly at check-in, due to their policies or misunderstanding of visa types. It is generally recommended to be prepared to explain your visa status if asked, or obtain a low-cost onward ticket as a precaution.

Just but a 10 us onward ticket. Saves you piece of mind

If you hold 1 year visa no one will do that to you I know people holding this visa they never been questioned

I am really surprised here by the number of false or inaccurate replies here. Here is the truth: for a non-o you do not need a return ticket.
Steve *******
If you have a non o visa then not a problem. If you are travelling on a tourist visa or a visa exempt then you may be asked by the airline to show proof of onward travel.
Paul *******
If you have a non-O visa, you definitely don't need an onward ticket.
Nick ************
Currently two single tickets are cheaper than a return with Thai.
Cliff *********
It’s up to the overworked clerk at the airline desk. Do you really think that person will understand your visa? Of course not. You don’t have a Thai passport, that’s all.

Do yourself a favor and have an inexpensive onward ticket to show.
Jo **********
@Cliff ********
no it’s not required never had a return ticket after 20 times
Paul *******

If you have a non-O visa you don't need an onward ticket. Why should anyone buy a ticket they don't need? If you're intending on entering without a visa, different story. Then you'll need an onward ticket. Tourist visa - technically no, but may depend on the airline .
Cliff *********
@Paul ******
Why court trouble? How likely is the clerk or supervisor or whoever to know the details of the visa?
Paul *******
Cliff SussmanVery likely. Many expats fly back to Thailand on one way tickets and they're not going to purchase an outbound ticket when they live in Thailand. Don't fear monger or provide ridiculous advice.

The OP isn't a tourist.
Graham ******
@Paul ******
Agreed, if the check-in agent doesn't understand the visa just ask them to speak to the flight supervisor
Mikkel *******
No return ticket needed when you hold a non o of any kind. Or non b, or non ED.

Only if you are not having a visa at all (visa exempt) or at times on a tourist visa too.

If you get any grief from check in counter. Point out that you have a valid non O. Which means you are not a tourist, and not having to go back in 30, 60, or 90 days.
Paul *******
@Mikkel ******
100% accurate information.
Mikkel *******
Reason for them (the airline) demanding a return ticket for no visa or tourist visa is that they are responsible for trafficking you home if denied entry into Thailand of thai immigration.

It's only the airline that will give you grief about it too.

Immigration in Thailand won't ask when you go through passport control.
Sean ********
You don't need a return ticket for a long stay visa.
Gary *********
This is an easy question, to be on the safe side just buy an onward ticket for under $20 and cancel it once you arrive in Thailand
Jo **********
@Gary ********
no you don’t need

it’s well documented that some people have been refused boarding on a flight to Thailand, because they did not have a return ticket. It’s entirely up to the airline and the personnel checking in passengers. It’s a hit or miss game. But there is an easy fix, step out of line, purchase, an onward ticket, get get back in line and board the plane, hold that ticket till you pass through Thai immigration, then cancel the ticket.

There is no black and white answer. It depends on the person doing your check-in and on his/her supervisor.

There is a black and white answer. Non-O visas don't require an onward ticket. Visa exempt does. Tourist visa - now that will depend.

Yes you can

I always fly 1 way to thailand as I never know when I'm going back or might go somewhere else. Iv never had any problems and I have a 1 way ticket for 28th of july
Dave *********
I've never showed a return ticket and never been asked in 23 years

Airlines can mess with you on this and not let you board. They don't understand Thai visas. I had a Non-O and work permit and was living in Thailand. I visited Taiwan and the China Airlines guy would not let me board to return to Thailand because I did not have a return ticket to Taiwan!! Note that this was a long time ago, but I can see this happening again with certain airlines. After what some of them did with the Covid regulations, I don't trust any of them.
Paul *******
@Martin *******
You just tell them that a non-O entitles you to stay in Thailand. No airline should prevent you from flying on a one way ticket or the return sector of a round trip originating in Bangkok if you have a visa.

I've flown from many parts of the world, including recently, without any issue on this matter. Always had an extension of stay or long term visa and never a problem or even a question.

@Paul ******
yes good answer

I have OA from USA and doing one way ticket

I left with a single ticket. I had an exit ticket but they didn't ask about my return, maybe they can see on the computer!?

If a problem. Onwardticket.com works US$12

When you book a one way with Thai Airways a pop up appears warning you that you may not be admitted without a return. I've been asked before regarding a return...I always Book a miles ticket and cancel it
Paul *******
@Srini *****
What I'd like to know is (you'll be able to answer this question after your flight) does THAI still make mask announcements? I understand, it's all voluntary but I've been told they still play mask recommendation announcements and all the Thais adjust their masks in fear.
Paul *******
@Srini *****
By the way, have you flown THAI recently?
Srini ******
@Paul ******
I'm flying them from Chennai to BKK tomorrow
Paul *******
@Srini *****
They shouldn't be doing that because that only applies to tourists. They're racist by assuming there are no foreigners living in Thailand when in fact there are millions (when counting laborers from neighboring countries) and even if they're excluded, there are still something like 250,000 expats from various countries living in the Kingdom.
Srini ******
@Paul ******
i agree.. No other airline does that
James **************
I have the same issue with non o, but I'll just get a cheap exit just in case. It's the airline staff at the uk airport that will prob ask you....or use flyonward or some such..

.
Paul *******
@James *************
No need. For a non-O, an outbound ticket is not required.

From Ministry of Consular Affairs website. The tourist visa specifically states "evidence showing you will leave Thailand", whereas the Non-O doesn't.

My wife and I flew Thai Airways on a one way ticket Jan 2022. With 30day visa on entry. Since then have a non 'O' retirement extension, about to renew on Friday. We had no issues with flights or tickets.
Martin *********
Personally I would just get a cheap ticket to prove you will leave Thailand
Keith *******
From UK, if you have a visa, they may ask you to show it at the check in for your flight, they did with me
Paul *******
@Keith ******
Well that's normal. They have to verify your eligibility.
Keith *******
@Paul ******
what? If you have return flights they do not ask to see your visa, they don't even know or care if you have a visa or not! The only reason you would need to show a visa is if you have a one way flight as he asked 😉
Paul *******
@Keith ******
Sometimes they do, but it's more likely to happen if you fly on a one way ticket.

I always had a one way ticket when returning from UK to Thailand , as it was the return part of my return ticket from Bangkok to UK and I lived in Thailand on my Non O based on Retirement .

When I entered on a tourist visa, I wasn't asked for my return flight. So, I would say it is ok.

I go round trip with a flexable return policy that way you can change it later and then no problems

I've been doing it on a regular basis every 4 weeks excepting covid shut down for 20 years no problem and still doing it.

Tell them you are staying 1 month and not sure if you're going to vietnam etc after the 30 day visa runs out... I've never had an issue and I've flown in and out of Thailand 8 times now since last October. Get a bus ticket for 10 dollars that take you across the border to whatever town you pick outside Thailand...
Jonathan *******
I have a non o based on marriage, and I have flown to Thailand (from both the US and UK) without a return many times. You will be fine

i use more than 30 years one way ticket

But you must have a visa

Why not just book a ticket out of thailand on thai air, and when come to pay you say pay at counter, then you get a ticket you can use and it is cancled again if you not show up at counter
Stig **************
@John ***************
no need to, waste of time when on a non O visa
Paul *******
@John ***************
Why bother with that? It's not required. He's on a non O.

Non O do not need a return ticket

I do not think the law has changed..

Probably not entirely, despite the rhetoric over recent years.
Paul *******
@Mike *****
Yes thats true.
Paul *******
@Mike *****
Of course it hasn't. A non-O is a legitimate long term non-immigrant visa. If every foreigner was forced to buy an outbound ticket that would be tantamount to saying "foreigners out, no foreigner can live here anymore".
Mike ******
@Paul ******
and maybe they will kick us out one day..???
Mike ******
Some people may or may not understand you can enter on a tourist visa ..one way..
Mike ******

Can

I did it on a tourist visa
Nick ************
I have certainly entered with my non o based on retirement with no onward flight. No problem at all.
Mike ******
Yes you can...even a tourist visa you can...
Graeme *******
I have never been questioned about a return ticket and I travel in and out a lot on my non O
Bob **********
You are ok book your one way flight non -o based on marriage you probably won’t ever be back to the UK
Paul *******
@Bob *********
Maybe he will. However, he definitely won't have any issues with the one way ticket, you're right about that.
Bob **********
@Paul ******
yea if he goes back he’ll be minus a few bob
John *************
I've had a Non-B based on marriage for many many years and I have never been asked for an onward ticket. Not once. But I have never been to the UK. I don't know why it would be different there.
Paul *******
@John ************
Highly unlikely anyone flying out of the UK would face problems getting onto the plane with a one way ticket if they hold a visa.
Richard *********
@John ************
that want make sure the brits go back home :-)
Stuart *********
Non O visas do not need an onward ticket out. If challenged at check in ask for a supervisor.
