TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a 12-month visa for Thailand, you can generally return after traveling to the US as long as it is a multiple-entry visa. You should check if your visa is indeed a multiple-entry type, as some visas may have specific rules. Leaving Thailand without a proper re-entry permit could result in complications upon your return. If your visa is an extension of stay, you will definitely need to obtain a re-entry permit before leaving, usually available at immigration offices or the airport.

But if it is not a muli entry visa you have to buy a re entry permit. Can buy that at the airport in a part of the "room"where you queue is a small office where you can get that re entry permit.

were is room in airport?

depend on the visa. Have a look. If it says"multi entry"then you just leave thailand and return without problems. Of course now a days you have to apply for COE etc etc.

You may have to apply for a re entry visa before you leave the kingdom.

Before you leave Thailand go to Immigration Office and it cost 1,000 BHT to get a reentry permit. You can also get this permit at the airport but will take longer. You can also have a multi entry permit which cost 4,000 BHT for unlimited in and out. If you do not have either one your retirement visit is finished and you have to start the process all over again

1. CHECK YOUR PASSPORT! A "Visa" is a full page sticker that says either Non-B or Non-O. An extension of stay is a stamp that says "extension of stay".

2. If you have a one year visa, it is multiple entry. HOWEVER, on each entry, you can only stay for 90 days.

3. If you have an extension of stay, UNLESS you purchase a re-entry permit, you can not leave. A re-entry permit is a stamp in your passport that says "re-entry permit". You can get a re-entry permit at any immigration office, and it's 1K THB for a single entry.

You CAN leave without a re-entry permit, you just cant re-enter on the same extention of stay.

You sure it's a visa and not extension of stay?

I have to check. Thank you

12 month 'VISAS' are all multiple entry, so as long as you return before the visa expires you'll be fine. If you have a 12 month 'extention of stay' then you'll need a re-entry permit.

OK thank you

If it's multiple entry no problem.

Youā€™ll need an exit/reentry permit, return before 90 days, then pending the covid situation on return: no expert but been traveling in snd out for quite a few years.

return before 90 days ? Are you sure cannot find anything on that i need to go Singapore for six months, so that would affect me

could be different now. Iā€™m on the ā€œretirementā€ visa with annual extensions. Was told this by immigration several years ago. I needed to stay out for work for an extended period also so I went in to inquire. Said if I donā€™t return within the 90 day time period would as though I abandon my visa. šŸ¤·

The re-entry permit is valid until your extention expires NOT 90 days. Single entry use once, multi-entry as many times as you want.
