I’m currently in Phuket and I have my dtv, I’ve been in Thailand a little while now but looking to relocate to Krabi in the next month or so. I’m on the soft power and my cook school is here in Phuket, I know there’s no cook school in Krabi for the dtv but for boarder run purposes could I sign up to a local cook school in Krabi incase immigration checks if I’m signed up to a ‘soft power’? Thanks in advance!
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around whether an individual holding a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Phuket can sign up for a local cooking school in Krabi for the purpose of maintaining visa compliance. Several commenters express concerns that immigration checks occur, especially regarding attendance at approved schools. While some suggest that attendance may not be strictly enforced, others emphasize the importance of fulfilling the requirements of the original cooking school in Phuket. As there are currently no approved cooking schools in Krabi for DTV, attendees are encouraged to maintain their enrollment in their original school and balance classes between both locations if necessary.

98% of soft power applicants have no interest in Thai cooking or Thai Boxing or whatever their course is, they just sign up to get the 5 year visa. Most of the original applicants signed up for six months course and now they have been here over two years. It will be interesting to see what happens when these start expiring and these people want to renew for another 5. They may tighten it up by then. For now anyway I really don't think they check or even care.

Soft should be METV like a lot are getting now. 5 years and potentially 5 more of cooking and boxing is a farce.

they wont ask...90 percent of dtv visa holders dont do anything when they should...and if they happen to ask which they dont you can just give them the name of your old school they dont check...they only harass people who been in thailand for many years now

The cooking school I used in Phuket (Phuket Thai Cooking Academy in Kathu) offers a flexible schedule. You just have to take X amount of classes in X amount of time. So you could spend a few days in Phuket, knock out a few classes, go back to Krabi, then repeat 2-3 times over the course of the year (or however long you sign up for) and you're done.

Your visa will simply be cancelled if you do not attend classes at the approved school where you applied for your DTV. The school is required to submit attendance reports.

I will ask immigration officer if i meet him again. And ask him if atfer subscribe visa for cooking school it's normal that some people don't intend the course. Maybe rules will change 😉

Immigration officers showed up during my last class (at the Bangkok cooking school). The teacher told us not to worry, as they were just there to collect attendance records from the past few weeks for foreign students holding visas for the course. 4 people was missing since 1 months. So yes, checks do happen.

Collecting information is one thing. What someone does with that information (if anything) is another matter. You have stated that your DTV will be revoked for non-attendance. Therefore, we would expect to be reading verifiable indignant reports. Could be that the attendance records are being obtained for statistical purposes only?
