Hi everyone is that true what I read on this line ? I wish to know thanks because I will need to plan my renewal in 2 years I'm already on dtv right now.
Answer summary
The community discussion centers around the validity of claims that the DTV visa in Thailand will no longer have a renewal option and will require applicants to return to their home country to apply. Many comments express uncertainty about future regulations, suggest that the DTV visa might be replaced or changed significantly by the time of renewal, and emphasize the necessity for potential applicants to stay updated via official immigration sources. Overall, there is concern about the implications for expats living in Thailand and the additional costs involved in visa applications.

Your first instinct was not to check the immigration website? I mean asking the group about things is cool and resourceful but guys like you have to do your due diligence as well for something like this change that’s been all over the different embassies websites and immigration websites and even their Facebook pages. Some things deserve going to the sources.

When we get a work permit in Thailand it’s common for police and criminal checks.

This is standard and it allows for reputable foreigners to work and live, or in the DTV case base themselves

That's ashame. As I am not spending several thousand of dollars to fly back and forth to my home country to apply. So my money will be used in a different country instead

Spend you money in a different country?

What does really change? Digital nomads normally spend money in different countries...

not a digital nomad.

When you are not a digital nomad, non-b or LTR might be a better visa for you, DTV is primary meant for digital nomads.

The heavy misuse by people who want to live in Thailand now has resulted in the strange situation that a real digital nomad now has to return to the home country to apply.

yeah that's the point. Only people who can afford it and are willing to put in the effort are wanted.

You're lucky if Thai rules stay static two months, and you want to know what it will be in 2 years ?

Come back in about 20 months and check

Yes, it's true.

What needs planning for over 2 years? The criminal background check cannot be done that early and for booking a flight home it also is to early.

Nobody knows if DTV still exists and if so with what rules.

Get a second DTV for softpower is highly unlikely, 5 years should be enough to do all the softpower activities.

You don't live there though, you're on a multi-entry tourist visa for a workcation. Reasonable to expect you to be back in your own country

The DTV visa just is not meant for living long time in Thailand.

I would not be surprised that even if it still exists in a few years, there will be checks how you used the visa in the first 5 years.

For long term you should use other visa, like non-B or LTR.

At least you have 2 yrs notice to start saving. With the recent changes some lost money as they planned to be in Vietnam, Laos etc this/next month to apply.

It is true, and has been announced by most embassies, and even exists on the official gov evisa website:

if your DTV will expire in 4 years, what kind of renewal are you preparing in 2 years? And even if DTV will still exist in 4 yours, I doubt it that any of the actual DTV holder are going to be able to get it again

By the time it will be time for renewal it will definitely be canceled. So don’t rely on getting it

YellowPomelo1882 doubt they would cancel it. What other long term options would they leave people.

Me personally I got 3 years left of my DTV am getting married on my last year anyway. If you really want to stay and currently on DTV and have a partner you should be making plans

I don't think renewal is the right word, I think the Visa will expire and you will have to apply for a new Visa.
