Does a lack of prior visits to Thailand affect my chances of getting a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)?

Hi all,

When applying for DTV is it manditory or does it lower your chances of being approved if you havent visited thailand before applying for the DTV? Ive seen it asks if you have visited before and I have not yet and im wondering if this would be something the embassy would deny due to not having physically been in the country before applying.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, not having previously visited the country does not significantly impact your chances of approval. There are varied opinions among applicants, with some suggesting that prior visits may enhance understanding and adaptability to Thai culture. However, several commenters noted that embassies typically do not see previous visits as a qualification for DTV. That said, strong financial proof and a well-prepared application are essential. It's also recommended to visit Thailand through a regular tourist visa to ascertain personal compatibility with the country before committing long-term.

If anything it enhances your chances of being approved. You have not been abusing visa except stamps entry into Thailand

no one cares it's not a qualification

people are saying what if you don't like it? Personally I'd risk it, as an advanced traveler, it is rare that a country surprises me anymore: I can watch videos online and understand really well how it's going to feel based on experience in so many other countries. But are you well traveled to do that?

It doesn't really matter much! While anything can be asked as a unique case.

Workation: Have a strong Portfolio and convincing financials

Softpower: Have strong financials

Overall application matters.

It shouldn't be an issue though some embassies may ask to see prior experience in Muay Thai or similar classes. Now the real question is: if you've never visited Thailand before, are you ready to live here? As others have said, Thailand isn't for everyone; you'll need to adapt to local customs. Better yet, come here first to see if you like it before going for such a visa.

As long as you dont have a long history of abusing the visa exemption (ie doing visa runs overnight) or actually overstaying.

A few embassies have asked to see evidence of previous interest in soft power activities. This question may add backup or evidence to that. Not heard of not visiting being a bar to getting a DTV though.

If you haven’t been I’d recommend coming on 60 day (exempt) if you are eligible do a 30 day extension. Thailand isn’t for everyone you may not even like it here.

That’s just my 10c any way

There is a reason companies send staff on a relocation visit before they move. I have known moves being turned down afterwards. Usually the wife saying no though. Known wives leave during a posting too.

I remember a British wife going home from Bangkok. She realised her husband was having an affair with a Thai when she found his darned socks. The girl was sewing the holes when he was asleep. The Brit would have thrown them away and bought new ones lol When I took my Thai partner to Singapore her main worry was not being able to find a condo without ghosts.

I don't know why they ask the question since they can easily search your passport info to see if you've entered Thailand before, but I can't fathom how it would make a difference.
