TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a visa run at Mae Sai while having a 1-day overstay on a NON-O multiple entry visa. They inquire about potential troubles at the border beyond paying a 500 baht fine. Community responses suggest that while paying the fine may be straightforward, there are risks of being detained by police during checkpoints, especially with an overstay. Many recommend avoiding the border crossing under these circumstances and consider leaving for the visa run a day earlier to prevent complications.

And I believe Theo has more than enough advice on what they should do, and what to expect if things go sideways on the way to the border.

Since you are on a ME visa, why can't you do the border bounce a week early? Bouncing early won't affect the length of the visa. If you are caught on an overstay, you will get deported and banned for one year.

I'd be very leery of heading to Mae Sai on an overstay. We've seen posts with other people on their way to do an out/in bounce with overstay and got pulled off the bus by police when they checked their visas. Even caught on one day overstay can land you in jail or get you kicked out of the Kingdom. Assuming you're coming from Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, you will go through several police check points. Why take the risk?!
If they want to make a point, it is 500 Thb fine, a one way ticket back to Amsterdam and 1 year blacklist. But honestly I did not read any report of this happening, but not everybody makes reports so don't count your blessings on this message.

ok i understand now the risk is they check my passport on the way to the border. Then the day overstay is a huge problem right?

Gregor Huettner NO, as long as the visa is valid, meaning if you enter before the valid until or enter before date mentioned on the visa you get 90 days admitted to stay.
nope, the visa is valid for a year from the date of issue and EVERY entry is good for 90 days, leaving on day 91 gets you a 500baht fine but the VISA itself is still valid for the year so you just bounce right back in for another 90 day stamp.

That's what i want to know what happens when 1day overstay

and if he leaves after 91 days, does this not affect the visa itself ?

Understood...but does the visa expire if not used within each 90 days ? He plans to be on overstay ....
just curious on how can one create an overstay when he has a non imm o multi entry visa. Does it mean he lets the visa expire the day before he leaves Thailand ?
just dont get stopped on the way to the border. Thats serious!

nope, pay the fine, get the overstay stamp in your passport, stamp out of thailand, pay the 500baht to stamp in and out of burma and stamp back into thailand.
