Is there any potential issues with this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to conduct a border run at Aranya Prathet with an 8-day overstay. They are concerned about potential issues, especially regarding immigration stamps and overstay penalties. Some commenters note the standard procedure involves receiving an overstay stamp regardless of whether the overstay is cleared at immigration or at the border when exiting. Others provide practical advice on handling the overstay and warn about scrutiny from border officials, suggesting alternatives such as the Ban Laem border.

even if you overstay because the immigration office is closed but you go the next day they're open they stamp your passport :/

If you went and cleared the overstay today at Chaengwattana you'd hafta leave the country today.

You can clear the overstay at Ban Laem without any problem.

I'd just take the mini van there tomorrow morning.

@Ha***
, after you have an extension already when you clear an overstay you can only get the "application for extension denied" 7 days to get outta thailand stamp for 1900baht.

Thanks Tod (always the best advise) and everyone for my replies.

Should I go to chang wattana now, pay the overstay and then take the van tomorrow from onnut to baan laem?

He's 8 days overstay. He's getting a stamp don't worry about that.

Do your overstay at an immigration office 1st, you won't get the dreaded stamp in the back of your passport

@Jo**
, I'm not saying don't comment or don't try to help.

What I am saying is: as a general rule if you overstay when you clear it at an immigration office or when you stamp out of the country you get an overstay stamp in your passport.

Todd I've been here 24 years... I've had one or 2 overstays in that time so I know what they look like and where to find them.

Ok I'll stop commenting... no point if I'm not of any assistance.

you sure they didnt' get this stamp in their passport? It's quite small. Here's one from Narathiwat for a 2 day overstay with a 1000baht fine from 2010.

After they paid their overstay did they get an extension or were they leaving the country that day?
John ******
4 days

Yes they got receipts

I was with them through the whole process... seemed to be the norm.

One had also lost his TM card... it didn't phase anyone in there... cool as cucumbers and very efficient.

how many days had they overstayed, what was the situation and did you get a receipt of paying the overstay fine?

Those southern immigration offices play "fast and loose" with the rules >:(

I took 2 lads with overstay to Phuket immigration last week.... no stamp.

umm whether you clear an overstay at the immigration office and then leave the country OR clear it when you stamp out, you ALWAYS get the overstay stamp in your passport. :/

That is a sucky border to to a border-bounce at. Be prepared to be grilled by the officers on the thai side when you stamp out and when you stamped back in if you're asked be prepared to show 10K baht, a hotel booking and proof you're leaving the country in 30 days.

If all you're getting is a 30 day visa exempt stamp, you are way better off using the Ban Laem border with Cambodia and NOT Aranyaprathet - Poi Pet.
