Apologies if it’s already been answered

I’m planning to arrive on a 3 month medical visa(assume it’s non immigrant O)

Is it possible to change to a retirement visa in Thailand?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about transitioning from a medical visa (presumed to be a Non-Immigrant O visa) to a retirement visa while in Thailand. The responses clarify that a medical visa can allow for extensions based on medical needs initially, but after obtaining your first extension, you can later apply for a retirement visa, provided you meet the required financial criteria. However, complications may arise during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding entry and conversions.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

yes you can change no problem. One form that takes about 5 mins - 1900 baht also.

FAIL, you COULD change from a tourist visa to an in country Non-Immigrant type visa and it cost 2000baht (you're confusing an extension of stay with buying a Non-Imm VISA in country).

BUT since this covid shit show no one has entered the country on a 60 day tourist visa and converted it

SO it's gonna take someone comin' in, getting thru the entry process and THEN applying for a conversion at the immigration office to find out.

Christ you got answers all over the place. The way it works IS

IF you get a Non-Immigrant Type VISA for a specific reason (it is usually written ON the visa sticker) when you come in you will be stamped in for 90 days. When that times runs out you can only apply for an extension based on that reason. Meaning IF it says thai wife on the visa you can't apply for a yearly extension based on retirement, or vice-versa, AND if your visa says medical treatment you'd only be able to get an extension based on ongoing medical care.

You have to get at least ONE extension for the reason they issued the visa, before you could "change the reason for your extension"

SO

You COULD come in on a 90 day Non-O visa based on medical treatment, get stamped in for 90 days, get a new 90 day extension based on medical care, THEN when that is running out you could apply for a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement) by meeting the financial requirements.

thank you so much for answering the actual question...based on this information tho it would probably be just as easy to get a 60day medical visa(medical tourist) and then apply for retirement...much appreciated

Medical Visa does not exist, it is a Medical Extension, I am on it atm. Non-O is something else entirely.

why just because you're on a medical extension does this mean a medical visa does not exist?

There's no logic in your thoughts.
