TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they can transition from a 30-day visa exemption to a Non-O retirement visa while in Thailand or if it would be more advisable to obtain a 60-day tourist visa before traveling. Community comments suggest that the ability to switch visas depends on gathering necessary documents within the 30-day timeframe, advising that if this is manageable, they can opt for the visa exemption.

It comes down to how fast can you get your shit together to get the required documents, bank letters, etc to apply for the 90 day Non-O visa at your immigration office

I mean coming in visa exempt you get a 30 day stamp and you can get one 30 day extension SO if you think you can do it in that time line, come in that way. If you don't get a single entry tourist visa and get 60 days when you stamp in and a 30 day extension if you need

Even using an immigration office like Chiang Mai that requires 21 days left on your current stamp you could pull it off visa exempt with the 30 day extension SO as I said it comes down to how motivated YOU are to make it happen more than anything else
