Hi, some advice please, I entered Thailand on Aust passport Non Imm 'o' visa back in 2019, doing yearly extensions based on married to Thai ,current extension expires in May 2022. I departed Thailand on December 2021 with Thai re entry permit to visit folks in Australia and then hopefully return to Thailand and apply to renew extension usual one month before expiry.Question: Am I able to convert to different visa this time based on retirement when back in Thailand or do I have to reapply in Australia for new Non Imm OA and start all over? I understand different requirements, funds, insurance, police check etc. Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-Immigrant 'O' visa extension based on marriage to a Thai national and is seeking advice on whether they can convert to a retirement visa (Non-Immigrant OA) upon returning to Thailand after their extension expires in May 2022. Other comments confirm that it is possible to apply for a new extension based on age rather than marriage, while noting different financial and documentation requirements.

Thanks, I think I understand, my current extenstion of stay expires 28 May 2022, so I apply in country to convert to new extension of stay, over 50' on that exp day or one month before.? At the same Immigration Office?

, at the same immigration office (where your address is registered). You can apply for an extension changing the reason as usual, it doesn't have to be the last day of your current stamp.

You are now on an Extension of Stay, when this Extension of Stay ends you can apply for a new Extension of Stay based on a different reason.

In your case not based on marriage but based on being over 50 years of age.

Be aware there are different financial requirements for this extension.
