TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of changing their Non-O visa extension, which is currently based on marriage, to a retirement basis while in Chiang Mai. There's a suggestion that if the original Non-O visa was issued for marriage, the first extension must also be for that reason, but subsequent extensions can be changed to retirement if the visa doesn't specify marriage. Comments provide additional context on the process depending on visa notations.

IF you're still on the original 90 day entry of the Non-O and it is noted on the visa that it was issued for marriage you must apply for the first extension for that reason. The following year you could change it to one based on retirement.

Now on the other hand

IF the Non-O visa (or the eVisa paper if you don't have a sticker) doesn't say marriage on it you are free to apply for what ever extension you want to that you qualify for (retirment, marriage, raising children etc)

SO you need to look on the visa sticker (if you have one) or the eVisa paper you got from the consulate when you bought the visa and see if there is a notation on it

Thats the problem, its the first time in ....years they wrote Thai wife on the Visa sticker, so my Visa is valid till march5, I can do only one time extension 60days for family reason, right? So its May 7, my flight back is May 15th, ask for another 7days and pay one day overstay, any others ideas?

@Hombre ******
maybe go apply Monday for a 60 day covid extension, if they won't do that get the 60 day visit thai family extension, then see what's what closer to when you're leaving and as you said take the 7 day get outta dodge extension denied stamp (that you have to get just before your current stamp runs out because it starts the day you apply) and then pay the overstay if you can't get out by then

also if you're already ON an extension based on marriage there's no problem changing the reason for your extension to retirement when you apply for a new one, people change the reasons for extensions all the time it's not all that uncommon.
