Hi everyone. I have some mundane visa questions that don't involve Covid π
I plan on retiring to Thailand next year, but I'm trying to find the right approach. I'm not asking about the documents required at this stage, as I can obtain whatever is needed.
I would rather use a Non-Imm O visa rather than O-A as I understand there is no health insurance mandate on the former, and I'd rather self-insure at this point.
It seems one process is to apply for a 90-day Non-Imm O at my local embassy, enter Thailand and then apply for the year extension based on retirement a month before that expires.
However, the Visa form provided by the embassy does not have a box to tick for O or O-A. Does that mean they might try and force an O-A on me?
And if they do, can I change an O-A to an O when the time comes?
I can't seem to find clear advice on this.
Or do you have any alternative suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
(Oh, and I'm looking at Chiang Mai).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on applying for a Non-Imm O visa instead of an O-A visa due to the lack of a health insurance requirement. They are considering a 90-day Non-Imm O application from their local embassy, followed by an extension based on retirement. Concerns include the absence of a specific option for the visa type on the application form and the possibility of switching from an O-A to an O visa if forced into that situation.

When I fill in the two basic fields on the eVisa website, I get: "You are not eligible to apply for a visa through Thai E-Visa system. Please apply for a visa in person at the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate.". That's kinda why I posted this message.
I mean I could probably go there in person and try and make sure they put Non-Imm O in the box marked "for official use", but is that a guarantee they won't just add "-A" if they feel like it? π
the fees and requirements for a non o visa and a non OA are different. My guess is the embassy will work out what youβre applying for. Try to email or contact them via Facebook to see if theyβll confirm.
