Hi All

Mine and my family's exempt visa expires on 11 May (extension already done).

After going to Laos for my Non B working visa, can I change their visa to Non O dependant visa at immigration in Thailand, or do we all have to go to Laos?

We have birth certificates and marriage certificate from South Africa, but it was not certified in Thailand.

I was told that in order to changed to Non O, there would need to be 20days left on the visa and we would need copies to be certified in Thailand.

If it makes any difference, we are in CNX.

Thank you for your time and assistance🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the process of changing their family's exempt visas, which expire on May 11, to Non O dependant visas after traveling to Laos for a Non B working visa. They seek clarification on whether they can make this change at Thai immigration or if they must travel to Laos again, noting they have South African birth and marriage certificates that are not certified in Thailand. The conversation also touches upon necessary requirements such as the duration left on the visa for conversion and the importance of certified documents.

Not to disagree but I have not seen them issue 90 day Non-O visas in country for dependents or trailing spouses when someone has a Non-B. Most people apply for the Non-O visa at the same time their spouse applies for the Non-B.

I understand. Thank you and Roger for all your words and assistance. We have decided to go to Kota Bharu🙏

Immigrations can't do it at the last minute, you need to have so many days left on your current entry stamp to do it.

Most offices require 15 days or more left on your current stamps because it goes under consideration for 14 days and then you go back to get the visa stamped in).

and I am only relating what I have personally seen, and that is I have never seen a trailing spouse get an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a foreigner who was applying for a Non-B (or who had a Non-B).

I am not saying it couldn't be done, just that I have never ever seen it happen ..

Good Luck...

I was told by immigration that we can do it. We prefer getting all of our visas at a consulate though. We'll be too anxious if we hope that immigration can to it at the last minute

As you heard correctly they need 21 days of stay left to apply for a conversion of a tourist visa. I do not know what kind of visa they have now. It seems to me the best option is to talk to your employer, get a letter that he allows your wife and kids stay with you and you can apply for the Non Immigrant B visa at a Thai consulate and your wife and kids can apply at the same day for the Non Immigrant O visa.

one person applies for the Non-B and their spouse or child applies for the Non-O based on them being family of someone on a Non-B visa.

As described above. With the correct documents, meeting the requirements it is possible.

I was looking for some info about Non-B and Non O, and found this post. I don't understand, did something changed? 2 years ago I got my Non-B visa from Vientiane and after getting my work permit I could go to Vientiane again to apply for Non O for my family. How it's possible to apply for Non-B and Non O at the same time?

Correction... I noticed that going to Kota Bharu instead of Savannakhet will be more convenient and still very affordable

With consulate closed next Monday, I would have to apply on Tuesday. Then if possible change my family's visa to dependant in Friday 10th. (Again, current visa expires on Saturday the 11th)
