Can I extend a visa exemption stay in Thailand and switch to a non-B visa afterward?

I have a questions about the visa exemption.

- Would you be able to extend the stay after 30 days from visa exemption?

- Are you allowed to get the work permit and switch to non b visa from this?

- As the quarantine is 15 days, would it be enough time to apply for WP and Non-B visa or not in 2 weeks ?Or is it better to get TR visa instead? (in case it cannot be extended from the 1st question )

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarity on several aspects of Thai visa regulations, including the possibility of extending a stay beyond the 30 days allowed by a visa exemption, the procedure for obtaining a work permit and transitioning to a non-B visa from a tourist status, and whether it is feasible to apply for both a work permit and non-B visa during a 15-day quarantine period. Community responses suggest that while a tourist visa allows for a longer stay with extension options, switching from a tourist entry to a non-B visa depends on the employer's ability to provide required documents.

Hey
@Tod ********
as u seem to be very up to date! How do u see the chances of changing a tr visa to a volunteer visa for young people?
Sam *******
Im living for competition ;) thanks for ur help Tod! Stay healthy.

@Sam ******
look at Buriram united send them a mail you never know if you dont try and the owner has an ASQ registered hotel or he did not sure now football season has started

@Sam ******
then at least get a single entry tourist visa before you go thru the expense and wing your way here. That will give you 60 days when you stamp in and you can get a 30 day extension on that as well. That's 6 weeks (after you get out of quarantine) to look for work.
Sam *******
No
@Tod ********
, im serious to do a volunteer in Thailand I am 21 years old and already have a football coach license and sport instructor license for kids and young adults so I would love to teach kids the joy of playing football and enjoy to share my passion with others. Not everyone that comes to Thailand is trying to party all night and get shit faced and beer streets...

@Sam ******
serious or not FINDING a real foundation that will sponsor you for the volunteer visa is the issue.

AND

this is about the worst time ever to be looking for something like that given there are thousands of foreigners still here from the lock down in March that have pounded the pavement and tracked down every available volunteer position available out there.

Just know you're facing some stiff competition

Still good luck.

Sam Trapp now if all you're talking about is the "second option" I outlined, there's no problem comin' in on a 60 day tourist visa or 30 day visa exempt entry and tracking down an agency that can pull that off for you once you're out of quarantine..

@Sam ******
and are you talking about "young people" actually finding a real foundation that will genuinely sponsor them to get the 90 day Non-O visa then the year extension based on actually volunteering <- which has a slim to none chance of happening (at this time) :O

OR

are you talking about just handing your passport and a pike of baht to an agency that takes it to a province you don't live in, uses an immigration office you don't use to get you a Non-O visa and year extension from a foundation you can't pronounce let alone have any intention of volunteering at :/ <- which is what MOST "young people" on volunteer visas I know have done here.

If you're going to go thru all the expense to request permission to enter, spend the 40 US and get a single entry tourist visa. As
@Gra***
said you'll get stamped in for 60 days and can get a 30 day extension after that.

As far as can you convert the tourist entry to a Non-B in country? It CAN definitely be done, but that is totally dependent on whether your employer can meet the documentation requirements at the immigration office where you would apply.

@Tod ********
, previously I understood that a Non-IMM B had to be stamped outside of Thailand. Has that changed?
Tod *********
Emily Daves, you've always been able to go from a tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry to an in country Non-B.

The reason that people got documents from their employer and went out of the country to buy one at a thai consulate in another country was because the employer couldn't meet the more stringent document requirements to get the in country Non-B issued.

It's not a "can I do it" it's a "can my employer provide the correct documents" TO do it

thank you, so much for your answer but i wanna know about if it’s possible to extend another 30 days after the 30days visa exemption, because I don’t wanna get the TR visa. So I wanna do less process cause it’s hard to reach the RTE

@Rat****
the rules about 30 day extensions on 30 day visa exempt entries haven't changed <-meaning you SHOULD be able to come in on it and then apply for a 30 day extension.

Unfortunately at this time NO ONE has done it because they just started letting people in on 30 day visa exempt entries, and the people that have got in on them haven't finished quarantine yet.

So wait a few more weeks when people who have entered on 30 day visa exempt entries go to get their 30 day extensions and read the reports of them doing it

BUT the rules about getting them never changed

Tr visa is 60 days then can extend another 30 days for a total 90 days. Don't know about changing to another visa tho
