TLDR : Answer Summary
You can arrive in Bangkok and obtain a 30-day Visa Exempt upon entry. The following day, you can visit the immigration office at IT Square near Lak Si BTS Station to apply for an additional 30-day extension. You will need to bring your passport, the TM30 document, and a photo of yourself. However, it's worth noting that some users recommend obtaining a 60-day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand instead, as it may be easier and cheaper than extending the Visa Exempt. You could also consider applying online for a visa from your home country.

Yes you can.

Or, if you can wait a little bit, you take the new 60 day visa exempt. It's expected to be active within some weeks, but no guarantee...

Much better to get a 60 days tourist visa, before leaving the homecountry.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visa excempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

If visiting the nearest Thai Embassy website, you may find informations, that make it much easier to apply online.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

Then no need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

Yes, in Bangkok you can apply for the extension immediately. You won't need a bank balance though.

Mr Thurkettle, I have a related question for you since you are knowledgeable on this stuff.

I read somewhere where a person can get a 30 day extension at any immigration office. Not just at his local office. Is that true or a myth please? Thank you!

@Ron *******
you use the immigration office that aligns with the most recent TM30 that was filed for you. So if you are staying in a province and a hotel or landlord files a TM30 for you, you can apply for extension at the immigration office in that province.

For example if you're staying in Bangkok but the Samut Prakan immigration office is much closer to you, you still cannot go there because you're not staying in that province.

But if you're traveling around Thailand and check-in to a hotel in Krabi that files a TM30 that they are legally required to file, you can go to Krabi immigration for your extension.

Also you cannot go to any immigration office. For example there are about 5 immigration offices in Bangkok, but each one has a specific purpose so you can't just pick any one to go to. You must go to the relevant one.

But in Phuket and Chiang Mai and other provinces there are multiple offices that would allow tourist 30 day extensions.
