Hi everyone,

I'm new here and first time to process Thailand visa too. I'm currently in Bali using a business visa and wanted to visit Thailand. Is it possible for me to process STV visa even if I'm not in my country of origin?or I really have to go back to my country first to process a visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently in Bali on a business visa, inquired about the possibility of applying for a Special Tourist Visa (STV) to Thailand without returning to their country of origin. It was clarified that the STV is generally only available from the applicant's country of passport or legal residence. An alternative suggestion was made regarding applying for a single entry tourist visa instead, which may have fewer restrictions and could be more feasible.

I might consider single entry tourist. I just didn't see that there are options to change it inside the country. What I read is I have to go back to my place of origin to get another visa.

Did you're enter Thailand? I'm in a similar position as you. If you are in Thailand, how will you stay longer than 90 days?

I decide not to process any visa. Visa process here in Bali is very complicated. I will just do 30 days visa exempt then maybe will extend another 30 days. Flight will be first of January

you can change tourist visa in country to some other types, also the 60 day tourist visa can be extended once for another 30 days.

STV is only available from your country of passport or country of legal residence. I have no idea if a business visa in Bali would qualify you as that.

Why the STV? It’s a very restrictive visa and many many hoops to jump through to get it. A single entry tourist visa may be a better way to go, and if you need longer than 90 days there are options to change it inside the country.

"if you need longer than 90 days there are options to change it inside the country" - can you please elaborate. I'm in the a similar position as the OP. I'm aiming for an STV visa but I'm not in my home country (UK).

There are options to change to a ED visa to study language or Muay Thai, or you can volunteer at an organisation, depending on your age you may be eligible for a “retirement” visa. I use quotes because that doesn’t formally exist but an extension of stay/visa based on being over 50 is often referred to as that.

Cheers
@Stu***
. I'll searc more about ED & Volunteer visa. I don't qualify for the 'Retirement' visa.
