Hello, I have a STV (Special Tourist Visa) and wanted to ask if anyone has managed to change to a Non-Immigrant "B" visa without leaving the country? If not, is it possible to get the Covid extension an then apply for the Non-Immigrant "B" visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the limitations of converting a Special Tourist Visa (STV) to a Non-Immigrant "B" visa without leaving Thailand. It's clarified that conversion from STV to other visa types is generally not allowed and that working on an STV is illegal. However, some users mention the possibility of acquiring a COVID extension upon the expiration of the STV, but scrutiny remains around transitioning to other visa types post-extension.
I was able to get a Covid extension when my STV ended at the immigration office in Chiang Mai. Currently on my second Covid extension. I’ve been given mixed messages as to whether you can convert to any other visa type once on a Covid extension.
there's not any mixed messages if you go to the immigration office if they can trace your original entry back to an STV it doesn't make a difference if you're on an extension from the STV or a covid extension you can't convert it inside the country to another visa type, you need to leave the country and re-enter to 'break the chain' back to the STV

As long as your current stamp (entry and/or extension) can be traced back to STV entry, no you cannot. Your only option is to leave Thailand, then come back on Non-B, SETV, or a visa-exempt scheme.
A covid extension wouldn't change what you entered on.
