Do I need to file for a visa extension while also doing my 90-day reporting with a one-year multiple entry Non-Immigrant Education Visa in Thailand?

Hi all,

I have a question about extensions and the 90-day reporting. I was issued a one-year multiple entry non immigration education visa. It’s valid until March of 2022 and I hit my first 90 days mid-July. I know have to do the 90-day reporting but do I also have to file for a visa extension? Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they need to apply for a visa extension in addition to completing their 90-day reporting. They hold a one-year multiple entry Non-Immigrant Education Visa, which is valid for 90-day stays at a time. Community members clarify that while the visa allows them to re-enter Thailand multiple times within the year, each entry only grants a 90-day stay, necessitating an extension application before the current stay expires. They emphasize that the 90-day reporting and visa extension processes are separate, and guidance on how long extension periods may vary depending on the type of educational institution is provided.

Okay, people, the O/P got a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type ED visa issued from a thai consulate in their country BEFORE they entered.

When they entered they were stamped in for 90 days (the length of time a Non-Imm visa gets you) and they are stamped in until July 7th.

The year long visa sticker only means that they can exit/re-enter all they want for the year the visa is good and each time get stamped in for 90 days.

It does NOT let them stay IN thailand for a year :/

They need to get documentation from their school and go to the immigration in the area where they live BEFORE their current entry stamp runs out and apply for an extension.

Now depending on what type of school they're in (a real university or a private school) and where they are applying for the extension (bangkok or another area) they could get an extension for 60 days <- bangkok for a private school, 90 days <- other provinces for a private school, OR 6 months <- for a real university, up to a year <- again for a real university.

Once they apply for their extension they will get a paper in their passport stating when their do their first 90 day report. It will look like this

, IF you have a year long multi-entry Non-ED visa you need to know that it is only good for a 90 day entry stamp.

SO

you either need to leave/re-enter thailand to get another 90 day entry (which you can do every 90 days for the whole year) <-although with the covid shit show and mandatory quarantine you aren't gonna bounce out and back in easy :O

OR

you need to get documentation from where ever it is you're studying and go apply for an extension BEFORE the current entry stamp you have now expires and you go on overstay.

At this time you don't do any 90 day reporting because the visa you're on doesn't let you stay IN thailand long enough to be required to file one UNTIL you extend it when they'll put a paper in your passport telling you when your first 90 day report is due

this makes sense and answers all my questions! Thank you!

The 90 day reporting and the visa extensions are completely separate concepts. You would submit a 90 day report form in mid-july when your 90 day report is due.

You would have to do another extension of stay around February/ March 2022.

I guess my question is do I need to submit an extension now? I was told I needed to do an extension because the stamp in my passport has a written date of July 7th under the admitted date. I thought the July 7th date was for the 90-day reporting but was then told by a Thai colleague it means I’ll need an extension? I keep trying to call division 1 immigration but cannot get through. I’m confused on why I would be issued a visa valid for one year if I would need to submit an extension at the 90-day mark.

I know nothing about Ed visas but generally a one year multiple entry visa means you have to leave Thailand and re-enter every 90 days. Whether you can get an in country extension on this visa, other than a Covid extension I've no idea

you are confusing two separate things.
