TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a Schengen visa from Thailand with a DTV visa, provided you meet the residency requirement. You must be living in Thailand to apply through the VFS Global application center in Bangkok. Each Schengen country has specific requirements, so you should check the regulations of your intended country of entry.

What is the country of entry you will use? You need to apply through there system, VFS have nothing to do with the actual visa so each country may have slightly different requirements when applying but you must enter through the country of application and then it is approved or denied by THAT country. VFS just processes the paperwork on behalf of the country you make application do but don’t make the decision.

Also be aware the UK isnt in Schengen, so you can’t visit the UK unless you also have a UK visa, and if you do that and your return flight is from a Schengen. Putney you would require a multiple entry Schengen visa.

Do you mean as a non-Thai? Well the DTV is basically a tourist visa - do you have to have residency to apply for Schengen in Thailand as a non-Thai? You have to be "Living in Thailand" - give it a go - they can only say no.

"To apply for a Schengen visa in Thailand go to the VFS Global application centre in Bangkok. You can only submit an application there if you live in Thailand. If you live somewhere else, go to the page Applying for a Schengen visa and select the country where you live to find out where to submit your application."

Well... I'm a bit confused now... he/she/it states to hold a DTV... so... must be "non-Thai", no? πŸ€”πŸ™„

Yes - you are correct but I did not want to assume anything. People in this group pick post5s up on the slightest assumption. It is like writing my post-grad thesis again - I feel I need to put citations for everything :-)

All good... I know exactly what you mean... 😁

VFS Global can be very strict. My spouse is Thai and we were living in Cambodia but applied for Schengen visa for my spouse via them. They basically rejected it at first, despite being Thai. We had to show that my spouse actually was in Thailand for 180 days, which is kind of crazy to me, not letting a Thai national apply through them

I know what VFS is like. My best friend is a senior Diplomat. I cannot repeat his opinions:-) They also made another pal pay for one of their English tests for a certain visa. He was taught in English and his undergraduate and MSc taught in English. He worked for a British Pharma wherecthe company language was English. It was pay for their test or fly back to India to get Uni transcripts. They should never have had their contract renewed with the UK but they pretty much have a monopoly these days with many countries. The barriers to change are high.

about the English test, I guess your friend was applying for the edu visa? A friend of mine did his high school in Singapore and college in Switzerland, all in prestigious English speaking schools, and worked for English speaking companies. He still had to take the IELTS to get the edu visa for a short course in the UK. I personally find that absurd, though it's not VFS' fault but a UK requirement, no?

It was work visa - he was doing an internal company transfer. As though a large global company would transfer one of its senior staff to the UK without the language!! πŸ™‚ As for the test it is definitely VFS pushing their own test. It was a company transfer not an ED visa. I know a little about ED Visas - my Diplomat friend I mentioned above championed Chevening scholarships when he was an Ambassador not far from here. He is very proud of increasing the number obtaining the scholarship while he was Ambassador.

I'm surprised they asked for an English test even for a work visa! It's bad enough that the UK requires it for the study visa. I hope one day that dumb requirement will be dropped by both VFS and the UK gov.

VFS will not drop it - they make money. As for Govt there has to be a requirement for it. The testing requirements need to be kept but applied sensibly.

yes as non Thai

Anonymous participant Well it states you need to "Live" in Thailand to apply as a non-Thai. The DTV is basically a tourist visa. You need to ask VFS what they accept as "Living" in Thailand. I know work colleagues from China and Indonesia got Schengen Visas in Thailand but they were on B Visa with Work Permits.
