TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa can be applied for even if you hold a multiple entry visa, but you need to comply with the specific requirements of the Thai Embassy where you apply. If your multiple entry visa is a tourism visa (TV), you can simply leave Thailand, obtain an exit stamp, and then apply for the DTV visa in a different country before re-entering Thailand.

You can only have one visa. A dtv is a multiple entry visa but you must meet the requirements of the Thai Embassy you will be applying through.

Do I need to cancel my other visa or will it be canceled out when I get the DTV visa? I am currently in Thailand so I will be flying out to apply for the DTV.

Which multiple entry visa? If TV, then just leave Thailand with a exit stamp and apply in a different country.

Then enter again with the DTV
