Hi! Can we apply non-OA every year from home country instead of extending in Thailand?? Many thanks
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around whether individuals can apply for a NON-OA visa from their home countries every year rather than extending it in Thailand. Several comments emphasize the increasing scrutiny and control by Thai immigration, highlighting that at each entry, compliance with visa requirements may be checked. There's debate about the risks associated with the DTV visa, with some users advising keeping documents updated to avoid issues, while others express concern over the unpredictability of immigration officers and potential changes in visa regulations. The overall sentiment suggests caution and preparedness for expatriates in Thailand.

DTV is seen for some people as a work around for long stay. But in real they can change the requirements or even cancel all of these DTV visas at anytime. One thing is only sure: that you are the guest here, and as long as you're a guest you cannot be sure about anything. Even DTV or any type of visa don't guarantee you stress free. For me Thailand is a good country - but only for holiday. There are different destinations. World is big enough.
They won’t deny entry when they granted you entry this time. That’s what multiple entries means. They too have system in place. Relax, your landlord is safe
It's the job of the immigration officer to question people entering. Not everyone gets questioned. Not everyone gets asked the same questions. The question about not extending likely comes from the fact that to get an extension you have to update all your information and have funds in the bank. So you answered the questions and were let in without a problem. Seems they followed the correct procedure to me
This is the main thing that worries me, but I worry about everything all the time. It’s one of the reasons I came to Thailand, to try and chill a bit. Honestly considering wasting a lot of money on the Elite visa just to take away the added stress of relying on the immigration officers being in an ok mood or the government changing the rules one day.
I understand lots of you are on the DTV and have had no issues at all so I just need to relax. 😅
Luit van der Linde the issue is I’ve retired before I’m 50 so I have to do courses etc to be able to stay. I’ve did exempt for 6 months, education (Thai language) 1 year, now I’m looking at doing a DTV course. Crazy that I can’t just go on a retirement visa and be done with it. I have 0 interest in working, I just like to relax.
