The discussion revolves around whether it's more beneficial to apply for the DTV remote working visa independently or through an agent. Many commenters emphasize the complexities involved in the application process, sharing their experiences and concerns about banking and immigration issues associated with the DTV visa. Some suggest using an agent for support, citing possible difficulties in managing the paperwork and meeting visa requirements. Others mention the advantages and disadvantages of the DTV in comparison to other visa types like retirement or married visas.

Yes, as the DTV is a tourist visa. You are not allowed to do any work in Thailand for Thai people or Thai companies. Tourists are not allowed to have Thai bank accounts.

For pink card and ta bien baan i got it when i’m on DTV Visa. The most biggest problem is for the banking system. DTV is consider tourist visa not a long term resident. It’s mean when you have a problem with bank account maybe they will closed your account. For another such as Thai Crypto Trading i succesfully register using DTV as well. On Binance TH and Bitkub

The problem with doing cooking classes is that immigration will sometimes test you by asking you to cook them a curry before they'll let you back into the country.

Legally you need to pay min of 3 months cookery, then when return after 6 months the officer can ask for proof what course your enrolled in

Such an apology, stupid question. No, you won't lose anything and you don't need to deregister. You already have everything and own it, so why should you announce a change there? Nobody asks about it. It's better to stick with your current visa. If you're considering a DTV (Direct Entry Visa) just because you don't have the money, that's also bad. Even with a DTV, there are problems with multiple entries, as I've now discovered.

Why do that? Retirement visa is far more better than DTV. Did you look into LTR for a wealthy pensioner?

It would make more sense to as someone who knows the answers than random facebook.

You live in one of the Condos, so why would you "lose" the yellow book? Stupid question.

If you do not tell anyone, you obviously keep all the things you mentioned ...

DTV is a tourist visa. You risk losing your bank accounts as a minimum.

Look at it from a different angle. What's the benefit of applying for a DTV compared with staying with your existing arrangement?

I was recently told that since I have a Thai wife, bank accounts and history of living and working there, I was not eligible for a DTV.

But after I looked at the price comparison (border runs or holidays every 6 months for 5 years, versus a low cost in-country extension every year), I'm happier going for the non-immigrant O instead.

There's nothing stopping you doing a boxing or cooking course on any visa.

How did you get SSO? Is that available to people on retirement visas? Or is it because you used to have a work permit and continued paying yourself?

LongTimeLivingInThailand it's not about having health issues, you can get an anti aging plan or other health plans that would qualify for a DTV. according to what I read on this issue, this DTV would not be subject to the same scrutiny as Muay Thai or cooking courses.

Only one at risk is the bank account I would say.

Social security from past employment is interesting. You only keep medical for 6 months by default under section 33 after ending work.

Voluntary contributions under section 39 are then likely your current situation, so if you are paying the +-450 a month voluntary you can keep paying it and stay covered no matter the visa type.

LongTimeLivingInThailand my thoughts are the same as

. You are likely to loose your bank account in a year or two. I bank with 4 different banks. Each in. Turn asks me to go in and verify my data. The last TTB did it this month with a message wanting me to verify my address. I went in with my Yellow Tabian Bahn, Pink ID and Tor Ror
****
issyed that day. They still wanted my Passport to verify I have a long term extension of stay. If I had swapped to a DTV I have no doubt my account would of been closed.

The other things I think you will be okay with unless you tell them you are on a DTV.

I recently went into my local BBL branch and sat in the Wealth Lounge, wanting to open a new fixed deposit account. A girl came in, looked at my passport, and asked what kind of visa I have. When I told her it was a retirement visa, she quickly said, "cannot open a new account."

WTF! I asked her to speak to the manager or call the head office. She walked out and came back five minutes later to tell me it was approved.

A few days later, she called me and told me to come back to the branch because she wanted me to fill in my home country address. She didn't seem to get that my home is Thailand and I have many accounts with them. I don't have an overseas address in my home country, and I haven't had one for almost 35 years I told her. She just didn't get it and insisted that I come to the branch.

The next day, I went to the branch and asked for the girl who had called me. They just said, "Nevermind, it's taken care of."

WTF was that all about? JC!

You wont lose it at all, unless you go to the ampur and ask to lose it. Isnt that kind of obvious? The immigration system isnt exactly a banking system, where they have super strict routines to follow up each person... Why dont just stay on retirement? What is better with dtv? U have to leave every 180, days, which means its only technically a 6months renewable visa. Retirement is 12 months, and you never need to go to any border at all... W... U thinking going to dtv lol

something smelling fishy in th author’s post. Don’t you think? It doesn’t sound like telling a whole story. Mostly two issues - money or legal, or both.

what so fishy about it? I'm under a retirement visa now after working 35+ years in Thailand. I naturally accumulated assets in Thailand. Took over SSO payments under Section 39. DTV is a good visa but has caviets like banking and classed as a kind of special tourist visa. I can't stand going to immigration ever year and forking out 4,700 baht each time plus running around getting original documents from the Tambon and bank. Sick of it.

The point is... DTV is like a modern visa for modern people. You can do everything online. With Non-O you need a bunch of paperwork from different establishments plus photos of your house plus a copy of every document... and then another application if you want to leave the country... and you have to spend a day at an immigration office. Plus if you go for the retirement visa, 400K is basically locked forever and another 400K is locked for half a year every year... not my cup of tea... But to each their own

get re entry stamp in the airport or same time you renew visa, its valid until visa expires

Not to mention that if I were to wish to go on a trip with a non-o, I would again have to go to immigration, and fill in a form (and wait...) to get a reentry permit. With DTV I can just come and go...

LongTimeLivingInThailand This is the exact reason why I changed from marriage visa to DTV. I would much rather take a trip every six months than spend a day full of bureaucracy and queuing, and, in addition to that keep a decent chunk of my money locked...
