Can I apply for a multiple entry tourist visa for Thailand from a neighboring country after extending my tourist visa?

Hello, we are currently in Thailand with a single-entry tourist visa, which we have extended to 90 days. We have to leave the country in December and want to apply for a multiple entry tourist visa. We could even get an invitation letter from a Thai friend if that helps.

Did I understand correctly that we can only apply for these visas where we are physically located after leaving Thailand?

And is there a maximum number of tourist visas that can be granted per year/12 months?

Where is it easier to apply in Vientiane, KL or Penang?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about applying for a multiple entry tourist visa for Thailand while currently in the country on a single-entry tourist visa that has been extended to 90 days. They seek clarification on whether they must leave Thailand to apply and if there is a limit on the number of tourist visas one can obtain annually. A comment indicates that multiple entry visas can only be applied for at a Thai consulate or embassy outside the user's home country, suggesting limitations in their current situation.

You can ONLY apply for a multiple entry tourist visa from the Thai consulate or embassy in your home country or a country you have permanent residence in. So since you're not going back home, you cannot apply for a multiple entry tourist visa. The best you can do is single entry.

and probably I can't show them the flights from end of September...and then December to and from KL?!

not if its not your home country because they will see your passport details

only if you're in the country you are applying to. Evisa doesn't change the requirement that you must physically be in the country to apply.

if we opt for the Single Entry. Is there a maximum Visas per year or something?

most embassies are now one and done due to so many people abusing tourist visas to try and stay in Thailand long term. But even if you can keep getting tourist visas, eventually the immigration offers at the airport will deny you entry for trying to live in Thailand without a long term visa

, is that right only one tourist visa per year? So it would be basically easier then to come in 2 or 3 times a year by air on exemption and then get an extension?

depends on the embassy policy. Some only allow you to apply for a Tourist visa once per year and others will sell you as many as you want.

But just having a tourist visa doesn't guarantee entry. It's still at the discretion of the immigration officer. The only thing having a tourist visa means is if they let you in, it will be for 60 days.

does an invitation Letter helps getting a visa? And so probably its better to stay a month or two somewhere else before coming back?

an invitation letter only matters if the embassy you're applying at has it as one of their requirements.
