What should I do if I want to visit my parents in Thailand but have been advised to get a multiple entry tourist visa?

My parents legally live in Thailand and have for a long time, I visit them frequently, maybe 2,3 times a year for the past 6 years and have extended my stay a couple times as well. When I flew in this month they told me “you’ve been here too many times, need a multiple entry tourist visa.” Do you think if i fly out of the country for a weekend (for legitimate tourist reasons) is it possible for them to not let me back in to the country? Or do they just threaten this?

What happens if they deny you a visa exempt stamp?

Edit: can you apply for said Visa (multiple entry) in nearby countries?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the implications of frequently visiting their parents in Thailand on a visa-exempt entry, as they received a warning about needing a multiple entry tourist visa. They ask about the consequences of being denied re-entry if they leave the country for a short trip and whether they can apply for a multiple entry visa in neighboring countries.
