TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the possibility of obtaining a Tourist Visa multiple times while in Thailand. Users provide insights on visa regulations, the validity and extent of Tourist Visas, and share personal experiences. It appears that while there are no strict official limits on the number of times one can apply for a Tourist Visa annually, travelers should be cautious about back-to-back applications at the same consulate to avoid receiving a 'red stamp,' which indicates they’ve used up their limit at that consulate. Overall, there's a sense of differing experiences, with some asserting that information about limits could be outdated.

I'm in a habit of doing things the right way, that way there is no hassle, but hey that's just me

You can stay in Thailand 6 months in one year with a tourist visa,

I think maximum is 3 months at a time within a six month period
David **********
Yes Peter Frekkas

It turned to be out dated information,

As far as from what I can gather there is no set limit,

As pointed out before it is outdated information,

However my experience in government complex was different from Nonthaburi

Cheers mate

People just ask a question and we answer based on our experiences, which is all we can do,

As I'm sure we all know having dealt with different offices, one rule doesn't necessarily fit the other. I know here in bangkok is different from Chiang Mai.

@Mic***
, If there was such a limit they couldn't sell a 6 month METV A multi-entry tourist visa which lets someone stay here 9 months (with border-bounces and extensions) on it :O

As I said I'm not going to argue about it, I'm sure we have all had differing experiences as thing change periodicaly

IF there is such a limit, obviously they are not strict about it, huh? I dont know about you, but for me thats enough information :D
David **********
Anyway it's up to each individual how they play it

I have just went through the tourist to non 0. If I wasn't sure I wouldn't say

@David *********
nope, It's NOT and the immigration people at the government complex wouldn't know even if it was a rule.

That's because tourist visas are sold by the thai consulates which are run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NOT by the immigration office which is run by the Royal Thai Police.

I can assure you any place you find a time limit about how long you can stay in thailand on visa exempt entries or tourist visas it's someone quoting that rescinded rule I mentioned before.

David Mcmillan Last year went over that, as many others have. There is no limit as Tod Daniels said. Someone in the Gvt complex has been telling you fairy tales.
David **********
Oh mate I'm not going to argue,
David **********
Wrong. Incorrect. No limit on the amount of days you can spend per year.
David **********
Actually buddy there is, check the website,

I researched before coming out.

I also had advice given in government complex.

To ensure I did the right thing.

It states 3 months within a six month period,

I'm not sure on how strict they are with it.

But that's the facts
Tod *********
you are incorrect there is NO official rule that limits the amount of time you can be here on tourist visas..

You are confusing an OLD (now rescinded) rule where you were allowed 90 days worth of 30 day visa exempt entry stamps in a 6 month period.

I thought they cut down on visa runs but with the 60day tourist visa it still seems to be possible, just annoying to leave the country every 60 days but at least its still possible huh

oh wow that sounds amazing, I thought the METV is only to possible to get in my homecountry (Germany)
Tod *********
You need to meet these requirements to get one in KL
Tod *********
You could also meet the requirements as posted on the thai consulate website in Kuala Lumpur and go get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa.

It does have a significant financial requirement and you must show proof of several trips in and out of thailand, but you could wring about 9 months in country out of that visa.

FWIW: here's what those red stamps look like
Michael ********
If rotating consulates there is IN THEORY...no limit to tourist visas....unless an Immigration officer or a Consulate official.is having a bad day and takes it out on you ;).....People say Oh you should be an Expat and get a long term visa.....but if you have already done ED visas (like me) there is not really a lot of other options for the under 50's....!! I just reproduced though.....so that will solve my problem...LOL :)
Tod *********
@Mic***
, that's when you start getting those red stamps from the consulates meaning you got too many tourist visas from them in a row.

and when u have a tourist visa instead of visa exempt, is there also a limit :D ?
Tod *********
Peter Frekkas Nope but you can only get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by a land border crossing in a year. Meaning if you border bounce by land you burn one of the two you're allowed
Tod *********
@Michel ****
, right the consulate puts this warning stamp on a tourist visa they issue you meaning you got as many as you can from them..

Most people don't even notice they got the warning stamp until they go back to the consulate for another tourist visa and are denied.
Michel *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
Ah thanks a lot for the information! But seems like before they would deny your tourist visa application you get a warning like this before?
Tod *********
Peter, good question (y) ALL your arrival departure history is in the main data base when you stamp in and out of thailand (even if you change passports).

BUT at this time no thai consulate has a data base and all they do is look thru your passport for visas they've issued. Getting a new passport "resets the count" with the thai consulate and you can get more tourist visas from them.

Now there's no telling how long this will work for, but at this time getting a new passport works to get more tourist visas from a thai consulate where you were red stamped at.
Tod *********
If you hit the same consulate over and over (back-2-back) you will invariably get the "dreaded red stamp" (which is sometimes not even red :O) It says you used the consulate for several tourist visas and may be denied one in the future. When that happens you can't go to that consulate (or another thai consulate in that country If they have more than one).

At some point you're also going to be called on the carpet by the immigration officers at passport control when they ask you why you're living here on back-2-back tourist visas rather than getting a proper visa.

It's a crap shoot and I know people who have done it for years without issue and I know people who had problems after just a couple tourist visas

is there a maximum amount of visas I can apply per year? Or maximum amount of days I´m allowed to stay as a tourist per year?
