Hi, quick question regarding the 60 day Tourist visa application. I am a UK resident who intends to apply for a 60 day Tourist visa and then plan to apply for a 12 month Non-Immigrant O-A visa once I arrive in Bangkok.

So if I book a one way ticket, will I get approval for a standard 60 day Tourist visa without showing a return flight?

Thanks so much,

Regards

Neil

TLDR : Answer Summary
Neil, a UK resident, inquires about applying for a 60-day Tourist visa to Thailand with a one-way ticket, and his intention to apply for a 12-month Non-Immigrant O-A visa upon arrival. Community replies clarify that a return or onward flight is mandatory for the Tourist visa application and that a Non-OA visa cannot be applied for within Thailand.

You can get an O in Thailand not an OA

Expedia đź‘Ť

Book a flight to Cambodia/Vietnam for less than ÂŁ30 print the proof and use the 24 hr cancellation option.

The Airline wit most likely refuse you boarding the flight as they are responsible for getting you back to your original destination if you are refused entry

Bus tickets and other forms of exiting the country are not guaranteed safe options

You'll need return or onward travel within 60 days for the Tourist visa plus you wont get a Non Immigrant OA visa in Thailand.

When booking at Thai Airways this warning appears:

“Passenger who hold only one-way ticket may be denied entry at the destination. Please ensure you are in compliance with the entry requirements and regulations at your destination before payment.”

You cannot apply for a OA visa in Thailand, it must be applied for in your home country.

You can only apply for a Non OA visa in your home country.

Your airline will be the one that may have issues with a one way ticket. The online visa process will probably be a stumbling block too.

I need to sort out a lease on a condo first. So I assumed that meant I could only sort the visa once I arrive....

Apologies, in that case I am confused as I thought that only applied if you were married to a Thai girl etc.

I am not eligible for a Non O visa. I think Non OA is the only real suitable option for me to stay longer term (At the moment).

If you qualify for a Non-OA you qualify for Non-O (retirement/over 50)

You can apply for a Non O visa in country if you meet the requirements. An non OA can only be applied for in your home country.

On a tourist visa you must show airlines and sometimes immigration that you're leaving the country within 60 days. Bus, train, plane, etc., to anywhere outside Thailand.

I’m sorry that’s your experience. It’s not mine. Never been asked by an airline or immigration.

That''s frustrating. So you have no choice but to buy a return and lose the flight? Or I guess you can book a cheap flight to say Vietnam instead?
