Can we travel to Thailand, get visa at arrival, then go the same day to a Thai immigration office in Thailand and extended our stay for 30 more days (for 1.900 Bhat) that we have all together 60 days stay?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can arrive in Thailand on a visa exempt entry or visa on arrival, and then you can request a 30-day extension at the Thai immigration office. However, the ability to extend immediately may depend on the specific immigration office and its policies, as most offices typically require you to apply for an extension within 15 days of your departure date. It is also advisable to confirm requirements such as proof of funds and accommodation when applying for the extension.

This gives a lot clarity Tod. Good to have so much great help here, as reading all the websites has been confusing for me.

So we are going for visa exempt entry and then 30 day extension once we are in Thailand.

(y) correct :) Good Luck safe travels :P

, as people pointed out it's your misuse of terminology that is confusing you. IF you don't get a tourist vsia from a thai consulate in another country BEFORE you come here you will be entering thailand on a visa exempt entry NOT on a visa on arrival.

You get an extension of stay at the thai immigration office NOT at a thai embassy (because there are no thai embassies in thailand, ;) Just like there is no US embassy inside the USA)

It is going to totally depend on the immigration office you use for the 30 day extension once you're here. Some will do it right away, some want you to have 15 days or less, etc.

Yes you can but no thai embassy in thailand

Indeed best to get a tourist visa so you won’t have any hassle with going to immigration office and it’s almost half price from the extension. You can buy a cheap flight out after 60 days, a refundable ticket that you cancel or use

Check doch vorher online

Langweilig ....

But if you go to Thai embassy in your country you get 60 days immediately
Marie *******
I don't think they'll let you ask for an extension
Robert *******
Why not apply for a tourist Visa before departure, you get 60 days when you arrive and the costs are only 1.000 Thb.

Garrett Greenwald meaning I buy a regular flight ticket to somewhere and then I can cancel it with travel insurance with a week or so?

In Malaysia it’s a bit more. We don’t know our onward flight yet, if we go to Europe or Central America.

We don’t want to rush the decisions, so going first to Thailand and in 3 or 4 weeks can we decide with a calm mind. Usually we make then better decisions.

Go to a Thai embassy in Thailand. Good luck finding one 🙈🙊🙉👍

Why would you want to do it on the same day, when you can do it 2-4 weeks later?

Awesome. That’s easy to do. Seems simple. I am curious how well it is going then. I will have then 20k, pre booked accommodation and a smile ready to go 😉 Thanks Garrett!

Meaning something like 20,000 baht in cash?

I made the presupposition that we don’t need a flight out of Thailand when accessing via van the land border from Malaysia, just our first stay in Thailand, is it like that?

Thanks Robert!
Robert *******
Yes, no problem

Oh okay, we are coming from Malaysia by van. So we have to go first to Koh Lanta and after 2.5 weeks can we drive to immigration office in krabi for extension?
Robert *******
On Koh Lanta there is no Immigration Ofice so you have to travel to Krabi Immigration in Krabi Town. They only do it 15 days before your last day of Admitted to Stay date.

Oh yes, I meant immigration office. Sorry for the wording. Getting used to how is what called where.

You can only find Embassies abroad. There is no Thai Embassy INSIDE Thailand. Which Island are you going?

We go to a island. The embassy is shorter to reach this way and then it’s done. Otherwise we have all the hours driving again with our little baby.
Ron *******
There is no Thai Embassy in Thailand. You would use an immigration office. The majority of immigration offices won't allow an extension until the last 15 days of your entry.

@R**
, Garrett, is correct (y) In bangkok & Chiang Mai you can apply for ANY extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current admitted until stamp.

That means people entering on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp could go right to the immigration office from the airport and apply for a 30 day extension.
Ron *******
He's coming in on a visa exempt. That's what the topic is about. Nothing to do with applying for extensions on another type of visa.
Ron *******
He can't extend 45 days before his entry expires. He's only stamped in for 30 days.
